Army Learning Area (ALA) – General Learning Outcome (GLO’s) : ALA Human Dimension – GLO 8 ALA Professional Competence – GLO’s 12, 13 & 14 INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY: Collaborative / Interactive Instruction METHODS OF INSTRUCTION: Demonstration Drill and Practice Cooperative Learning Groups Peer Partner Learning ENABLING LEARNING OBJECTIVE ACTION: Interpret the Enlisted Record Brief (ERB) and Officer Record Brief (ORB) CONDITIONS: In a classroom environment given a requirement to interpret an ERB/ORB and access to an ERB/ORB printout, AR 11-6 (Army Foreign Language Program), AR 600-8-104 (Army Military Human Resource Records Management), DA PAM 611-21 (Military Occupational Classification and Structure), eMILPO Field User's Guide, Student Handout 1 and 2, the eMILPO Training Simulator, TOPMIS II training material and awareness of Operational Environment variables and actors. STANDARD: Identify the types of data and define information contained within the ten sections of the ERB/ORB and demonstrate the ability to make appropriate changes in eMILPO with 70% accuracy. LEARNING ACTIVITIES Lesson introduction. Divide students into groups (3-4). Provide each student with an ERB/ORB. Direct each group to research and discuss specific section(s). Each group will brief the class regarding their section(s) of the ERB/ORB. Process Personnel Transactions. ASSESSMENT Students are required to complete a knowledge-based assessment delivered via the Blackboard Academic Suite and obtain a passing score of 70% or higher.

Retrieving Single ORBs 1. Clicking once on a name displays a summary of the officer’s information 2. Double clicking on a name displays the officer’s ORB 1. Select Type – “Regular” or “Board” 2. Click on “Commissioned” or “Warrant” 3. Type in search criteria – Either SSN or Name 4. Click “Search”
Printing ORBs 1. To print multiple ORBs, select the first name and using either the “shift” key or the “Ctrl” key on the keyboard, select other names. 2. Once highlighted, select “Print” from the “File” menu

Lead-In The XO is going before the LTC promotion board. He wants to make sure his record is updated and accurate. The S4 recently bought a house off post. He has moved and needs to know if his address has been updated. The S3 just looked at his OER and wants to make sure he is getting credit for working in the correct duty position.

Input officer’s information then click “Search” The ORD application allows users to view and update information on an officer. If a user has write access (update), the user can change records for officers within their authorized UIC. They can view all active officers, but only perform updates on those officers within their authorized UIC.

03B – Security Clearance Data ORD (3 of 15) 03A – Service Data 03B – Security Clearance Data The Service Data screen provides read only information on the officer’s service data and related dates. This information is top fed and cannot be changed by the field user. To find what all the data elements mean, use the “TESS Search” tool. The Security Clearance Data screen provides read only information on the officer’s security clearance. This information is top fed and cannot be changed by the field user. To find what all the data elements mean, use the “TESS Search” tool.
04A – Personal Mailing Address ORD (4 of 15) 03C – Promotion Data 04A – Personal Mailing Address The Promotion Data screen provides read only information on the officer’s permanent dates of rank to each grade. This information is top fed and cannot be changed by the field user. The Personal Mailing Address can be updated by the field user. Information can also be updated in eMILPO on the Personnel Services main menu. If updated in eMILPO, allow for 24-48 hours for data to be refreshed in TOPMIS. Field users cannot change the officer’s email address - this is top fed and reflects the officer’s AKO email address.
04B – Personal Info, Family, Spouse ORD (5 of 15) 04B – Personal Info, Family, Spouse 05A – Joint Duty The Personal Info, Family, Spouse screen has both read only fields and fields that can be updated by the field user. If the military member is married to another service member, the information is reflected in the “Military Spouse Data” area on the lower right. The “PRENAM” Field is generally reserved for those officers who have an official name change (i.e., choose their spouse’s surname after marriage). The Joint Duty Screen is a read only screen. Updates for this screen are top fed. To find what all the data elements mean, use the “TESS Search” tool.
ORD (6 of 15) 05B – Adverse Action 06A – Foreign Language The Adverse Action screen is a read only screen that provides information on any adverse action currently imposed on the officer. Field users can make inputs in eMILPO under the Personnel Services Main Menu. Guidance on initiating a FLAG is found in AR 600-8-2 and the eMILPO Field User's Guide. The Foreign Language screen provides information on the officer’s foreign language proficiency and can be updated by field users. Field users can also update information in eMILPO. Required documentation includes tests scorers obtained from a test control officer (TCO). Guidance on valid entries is contained in AR 611-6 and the eMILPO Field User's Guide.
ORD (7 of 15) 06B – Aviation 07 – Military Education The Aviation Screen is a read only screen that provides officers qualifications on Army rotary and fixed wing equipment, status, and gates used to determine pay. To find what the data elements mean, use the “TESS Search” tool. The Military Education Screen allows you to update information on an officer’s military education. Field users can make inputs on DA and Local Schools that are not part of the Officer Education System. Field users cannot update officer military education in eMILPO.
09 – Military Decorations ORD (8 of 15) 08 – Civilian Education 09 – Military Decorations The Military Decorations Screen allows field users to update information on an officer’s military decorations. Field users should update military decorations in eMILPO. It is recommended that field users use eMILPO for updates since it allows you to input orders date and order number data (TOPMIS II does not give you these options). The Civilian Education Screen allows you to update information on an officer’s civilian education. Field users can make inputs on DA and Local Schools that are not part of the Officer Education System. Field users cannot update an officer’s civilian degree in eMILPO from the Personnel Services main menu.
ORD (9 of 15) 10 – Military Awards 11 – Assignment History The Military Awards Screen allows field users to update information on an officer’s military awards. Field users can update military decorations in eMILPO. It is recommended that field users use eMILPO for updates since it allows you to input orders date and order number data (TOPMIS II does not give you these options). The Assignment History Screen allows field users to update information on an officer’s assignment history. Field users can update assignment history in eMILPO, but the functionality is not as simple as TOPMIS II. A field user cannot update the officer’s current duty in TOPMIS.
ORD (10 of 15) 12A – Preferences 12B – Duty Address The Preferences Screen allows field users with read only access to an officer’s preferences as listed with the automated officer preference statement. Officers can access the preference statement at the following web address: https://isdrad15.hoffman.army.mil/ AssignmentPreferenceWEB. The site utilizes AKO authentication to access. The Duty Address Screen provides contact information on an officer’s current duty assignment. Unit and location fields are top fed. Field users can update relevant fields to update duty phone.
ORD (11 of 15) 13 – Medical Training 14 – Deployment Data The Deployment Data Screen is a read only screen that provides information on deployment data. This includes date and duration of the deployment, location, and type of deployment. This information directly affects a Soldier’s dwell time information. Deployment Data can be updated by authorized users of eMILPO. The Medical Training Screen is a read only screen that provides information on formal medical training of medical corps officers. ORD (12 of 15) 15 – Strength Management 17 – Affiliation and Experience The Strength Management Screen is a read only screen that provides information on officers and is used to manage their careers and assignment eligibility. The screen includes historical information on requisitions the officer has filled and is currently filling. To find what all the data elements mean, use the “TESS Search” tool. The Affiliation and Experience Screen is a read only screen that provides information on the command at the BN or higher level, Training Center rotations, regimental affiliation, and any professional certifications the officer holds. The Retirement Screen is a read only screen that provides information on an officer’s retirement application to include date request received, status, and approved retirement date. To find what all the data elements mean, use the “TESS Search” tool.
ORD (14 of 15) 24 – Acquisition Certification 25 – Acquisition Waivers and Contracting The Acquisition Certification Screen is a read only screen that provides information on acquisition officer’s certification. To find what all the data elements mean, use the “TESS Search” tool. The Acquisition Waivers and Contracting Screen is a read only screen that provides information on acquisition officer’s schooling, qualifications, and any waivers required or present.
30 – Officer Availability - YMAV ORD (15 of 15) 30 – Officer Availability - YMAV The Officer Availability - YMAV (Year, Month Available) screen is a read only that provides information on when an officer is available to move for PCS. Under the Dynamic Distribution System (DDS), this data is no longer the main basis to determine an officer’s PCS eligibility.
