Three Branches of Government

Executive Branch

Executive Branch Who? The president is the head of the executive branch. The presidents also has a “cabinet” that helps him make important decisions. Each State has a leader called a governor who is the leader of the states executive branch Cities also have mayors.

Executive Branch What? The executive branch is in charge of signing bills to make them laws! Or they can veto a law. The executive branch also makes sure citizens are following the laws.

Executive Branch Where? The members of the executive Branch meet and work in capital cities. The capital of our country is Washington D.C. this is where the president and the cabinet meet and work. The governor of Louisiana lives in Baton Rouge.

Legislative Branch Who? The legislative Branch is made up of a group of people called congress. Congress has 2 parts the Senate and The House of Representatives. Each state has 2 senators. Louisiana has 6 representatives. States also have a state legislature.

Legislative Branch What? Congress is in charge of making laws. Congress can also override a veto.

Legislative Branch Where? The United States Congress meets at the capitol building in Washington D.C. The state legislature meets at the capitol building in Baton Rouge.

Judicial Branch Who? The Supreme Court Justices are the judges for the highest court in our country. There are 9 Justices. The Justices must be chosen by the president of the United States. Once a Justice is chosen they will serve for life!

Judicial Branch Where? The Supreme Court Building is in Washington D.C. There are other court houses in our state and community as well.
