Agenda Overview of Role Roundtable Discussion Critical Topics Discussion John – Review objective of discussion and agenda

Role of the State Director Represent your Chapter on the TSPE State Board Convey accomplishments, issues and ideas from your Chapter to the State Convey information from the State Organization to your Chapter John State Directors are State Board members

Roundtable Discussion As State Director, you are a member of the TSPE State Board and represent your chapter at all formal TSPE Board Meetings. You are the sole vote for your chapter in all statewide decisions. Do you have any questions or concerns about how you will fulfill this critical role? What can your Chapter Board or the state organization do to help you prepare and represent your chapter well on the State Board? John – Lead discussion Non-attendance at a State Board meeting could cause an issue with having a quorum and would prevent the Board taking action on critical business to move the organization forward. Your chapter is allowed to designate an alternate to attend in your place. If you are not able to attend please be sure that your chapter President is aware and that you are requesting an alternate to attend to fill your board position.

Roundtable Discussion As State Director, you are responsible for conveying chapter accomplishments, issues and ideas to the state organization. What are your ideas on how to best accomplish this task? John – Lead discussion Through discussions with your chapter board prior to the state board meetings?

Roundtable Discussion As State Director, you are also responsible for conveying information from the state organization to the chapter. What are your ideas on how to best accomplished this task? John – Lead discussion We provide a one-page summary of the board actions to the board members following each meeting. This information could be used to give a brief update to the chapter at your chapter meetings. More in-depth discussion could be provided to your board at the local board meetings.

Roundtable Discussion What are your thoughts on the role of the State Director in recruiting and retaining members? How could the unique knowledge and perspectives of the State Director be leveraged to educate/excite new and prospective members? John – Lead discussion From attending the state board meetings you will have more in-depth knowledge of the direction and focus for TSPE going forward – this could be important when talking to delinquent members or in your conversations when trying to recruit a new member.

Roundtable Discussion What is the state organization currently doing that best supports you in your role as State Director? What else could the state organization do that would help you excel in your role? John – Lead discussion You will be receiving copies of all information forwarded to your chapter president on upcoming events, activities, etc. Also, any communications to you as a State Director will be copied to your chapter president. Last year we held separate bi-monthly conference calls with the Presidents/President Elects, Secretaries/Treasurers, and State Directors. We would like to arrange those again this year – do you think this would be valuable?

CRITICAL TOPICS SUMMARY IRS Compliance Unrelated Business Income Tax TSPE vs. TEF – Sales Tax Exemption Donation Acknowledgements Continuing Education Credits Political Candidates & Texas Ethics Commission Compliance PACE vs. TSPE Legislative Efforts Trish

CONCLUSION John – We would like to schedule regular sessions every other month to continue the open discussion. Do you feel this would be helpful? Thanks for attending today’s webinar. The entire discussion as well as the general Chapter Leader Webinar have been recorded and will be posted on the TSPE website for you reference.
