Presentation transcript:

There’s so much that I just don’t know …. JULIA’S PERSONA Name: Ronald Random User Type: Quote: There’s so much that I just don’t know …. Obstacles & Pain Points This is a brief biographical statement about this user type. We’ll want to highlight 2 or 3 things we should always keep in mind when designing for this user. The bio statement, user quote, and callout box should inform our solutions to this user’s problems. Goals & Needs Opportunities I need to get access to articles regardless of where I am Not clear what we subscribe to Doesn’t know about EZ-proxy At an institution where some affiliates have more access/permissions than others Using PubMed, but not aware of PubMed@UCSF Goes directly to the publisher’s site where UCSF-access isn’t baked in. Doesn’t know we subscribe to this resource/journal on a different platform [When on lib/PubMed make it really obvious if the user is on- campus or off-campus?] Seamless EZproxy login Publishers should provide access regardless of platform Borrowing account? No I don’t know if I own my data and/or how long I have to keep … or where to keep it Unclear/no policies around data retention or ownership No clear understanding of data storage options: pros/cons/costs We need a UC/UCSF policy on data ownership and retention Campus-supported data storage? We need clear guidelines on when to use what storage option Most-used library Affiliate Branch PC Internet Explorer Most-used tech I need to do a “systematic review”, but I don’t know where to start Told to do a systematic review, but doesn’t know what that entails Affiliate Branch Campus I’m at ZSFG/MTZ/MB. I’m confused about when I should go to which branch, and if I can even use the UCSF Library 2 branches offering different services; it’s unclear what services are available to me Use IP or a login to make it clear what’s available to this patron Interest in in-person events & help None Very Into It
