Award Committee Member Role Bring your knowledge of the materials, science, and engineering community and maintain quality of the award by judging the candidates’ achievements June through September - award committee members will review nominations and make selections The committee chairperson shall present the final nominee(s) of the award(s) approved by the committee, together with appropriate and adequate support documentation. The results of deliberations shall be kept confidential.

Leadership Skills Gained Award Committee Member Decision-Making Communication Professional Development Critical Thinking Appreciating Diversity Serving Others Time Management After two years of membership on a society award committee, you have the ability and expertise to become the award committee chair.

Duties Award Committee Member Membership on award committees should be kept confidential so as not to be influenced. Recommend committee member candidates to replace those with expiring terms Annually review committee bylaws Make judgments and complete ballot in a timely manner Keep all information confidential. Assist the committee chair as necessary and requested.

Qualifications Award Committee Member Qualifications vary per award committee such as affiliation with a certain division and/or technical committee, being a past award winner, location (international), field of expertise. TMS committee members must be TMS members in good standing; have knowledge of criterion for awards being judged; and have the ability to make impartial decisions. Award committees shall appropriately reflect that of TMS so that the interests of academia, industry, government and varying degrees of professional experience shall be reflected.

Time Commitment Award Committee Member Most award committee members have a term of three years. The chair has a term of one year, upon being with the committee for two years. June through September - award committees review nominations and make selections. Committees shall meet at such times as deemed necessary to conduct its business in a timely and effective manner. Meetings are via conference call. Society award subcommittee chairs meet at the TMS Annual Meeting.

Next Steps Post Award Committee Membership Be an Award Champion for TMS! Submit nominations for people you believe are deserving of a TMS award. After a member is no longer on an award subcommittee, assist TMS in the awards process by being an Award Champion. Submit nominations for TMS awards and encourage others to do the same. There are many awards that recognize accomplishments at various career levels. It is up to members and volunteers to nominate individuals deserving of the numerous prestigious awards, some of which come with significant remuneration.
