Fables and “Animal Farm” Our next adventure!

What is a FABLE? Fables are stories intended to teach a lesson, where animals speak and act like human beings.

Characteristics of a Fable Animals are usually the main characters The plot and characters are simple Stories teach a moral or lesson (theme) The morals are universal and timeless

The MOST Famous Fable The Tortoise and the Hare Anyone know the moral (theme)?

“Animal Farm” is a Fable Almost all of the characters are animals The story is very simple There is an important moral to be learned The moral is true for all people, in all societies

Why are we reading it?! This is a book that most high school students are expected to have read before graduation (especially if going to college) This book shows the effects of bad leadership (like Antigone!) This book teaches several meaningful lessons about how to be a good leader and a responsible citizen (like Antigone!)
