Brave New World, 1984 Real World research paper Semester 1, Quarter 2

You will be connecting a theme in Brave new world, 1984 to our real world Remember a few of our learning targets for this unit: I can build background knowledge on themes and context of Brave New World I can use research strategies to obtain relevant information that supports my claim.

Writing about these themes in the novel & how it connects to our real world will help us get closer to answering our guiding questions: How are the morals of Brave New World, 1984 applicable to today’s society? To what extent should morality be included in deciding what to do with scientific discoveries and developments?

What will we be writing about? Your research paper will be focusing on 1 main theme from Brave New World, 1984 I will give you a packet with all of the major themes. You will read the descriptions of each, then choose which one you want to focus on and why. As you are reading the novel, you can keep track of examples of this theme with sticky notes so that they’ll be easier for you to find later. You will have time to research your theme and when it occurs in the real world.

You will not be taking a position for this paper, but simply showing how a theme in brave new world, 1984 is still applicable to today’s world

Why should you spend the time researching an idea in both Brave new world, 1984 and our real world today? This project will help you see how novels still apply to our society today You will get the experience of writing a large, time consuming essay similar to the ones you will be writing in college.

When will the paper be due? Period 1- Mon 12/12 Period 7- Wed 12/14
