Presentation transcript:

Shakespearian Presentation Create a project on a topic that inspires you...

Requirements: Individual or partners (2 only) -If you chose to work with a partner, you must split the work 50/50 INdividual Presentation: 3-4 minutes with a minimum of 10 google slides (AT LEAST 8 OF SLIDES NEED TO BE RESEARCH-NOT IMAGES ALONE) Partner Presentation: 5-6 MINUTES WITH A MINIMUM OF 15 GOOGLE SLIDES (AT LEAST 12 OF THE SLIDES MUST BE RESEARCH- NOT IMAGES ALONE)

Requirements: 1-Choose a topic that is related to any of the following: Shakespeare, Elizabethan Times/Culture, the Globe Theatre, Themes from Romeo and Juliet. I have plenty of suggestions; however, I would like you to find a topic that interests you! 2-Research your topic. Keep track of the sources that you use. You will need to create a Works Cited Slide. You also need to have internal citations within your slides. 3-Create a Google Slides Presentation using the research and images that you found. Remember all research should be summarized into your own words, unless you are using direct quotes- then you need to properly cite them! 4-Present your Google slides to the class. Remember if you are working with a partner, you need to evenly split the presentation time.

Research and Images You want to make sure you do enough research to fill the slides and fully inform your classmates. You definitely want to add images or short videos (your time will be stopped while the video plays) to support your research. However, the presentation should be predominantly research based. Make sure to be familiar with your research so that you are doing more than simply reading the slides to the class.

Suggested Topics: Shakespearean/Elizabethan Culture Fate vs Free Will Elements of a Tragic Hero Gender Roles Social Class Teenage Impulsivity Violence Family Structure Shakespearean/Elizabethan Culture -Music, art, literature, food, entertainment, clothing, etc.... Elizabethan laws Shakespeare’s influence or who he influenced Globe Theater/theaters in general Queen Elizabeth

Works Cited Slide: You must cite all of your sources. This includes not only your research, but also the images or videos that you embed into the Google presentation.

Life in Shakespeare’s time 1. People lived in ‘households’- this was everyone living in a house: the owner, his family, and their servants. 2. In 1591, London theatres were banned from performing on Thursdays because that was the day when bear-baiting took place. Bear-baiting was a popular form of entertainment where bears were tied to a post in a pit and tormented by dogs. 3. Most people (rich or poor) left home as children to train for their adult life.

4. There were government laws about the fabrics and furs that people could wear so that you could tell at a glance how well-off and/or important a person was. 5. Women (and actors) wore make-up made from all kinds of ‘natural’ ingredients. These included chalk, lead (which is poisonous) and powdered mouse bones! 6. People didn’t drink water, as it often made people sick, because it was mixed with sewage. Instead, adults and children mostly drank ‘small’ (weak) beer. 7. With 12 pence you could: hire a horse for a day, go to the theatre and stand to watch in the yard 12 times, buy 12 loaves of bread, buy two dinners at an inn or buy four very small pipes of tobacco.

Upper Class Families would wear these fabrics:

Floors had rushes scatter over them to soak up the dirt, or, in wealthier homes, woven rush mats. 9. Elizabethan football had no limits to the number of players, or the size of the pitch and people often ended the game with a broken nose, or even a broken leg. 10. Elizabethan boys in upper class families would wear dresses until the age of seven when they were put into shorts called britches.
