Today’s Outcome Sumerian city-state lost power when they were conquered by invaders Before you leave today, you will be able to: Know the accomplishments of Sargon and Hammurabi Read Hammurabi’s law code Complete your city-state

Before – Class Notes Sargon, king of the Akkadians, conquered all of Mesopotamia and set up the worlds first empire Different lands under one ruler The city of Babylon was later built near the Euphrates Became the center of trade Hammurabi began conquering cities and created the Babylonian Empire He created a law code using laws from different city- states The Code of Hammurabi was strict, but marked a step toward fair justice

Create a city-state Create a city-state Name your city-state Choose your site What are the natural resources available to you? How can you use them to create food, shelter, and trade? What type of government are you going to have? Explain it. What kinds of jobs will the people work? Does religion play a role in society? Explain. What is your social class structure like? How will Sumerian inventions help you? Be specific. Write 10 laws for your city using Hammurabi’s law code as your guide
