CODE OF HAMMURABI About 1790 B.C. Hammurabi, King of Babylon, brought much of Mesopotamia under his control.

He wanted everyone to know the laws… Had artisans carve nearly 300 laws on a stone pillar to see

Important because… It is the first attempt by a ruler to codify, or arrange and set down in writing all the laws to govern a place. Criminal Law Civil Law
