Fundamentals of Structural Detailing Column Shop Drawings

COLUMNS Drawing practice assigns a letter to each column face. Letters are assigned in a counter clockwise rotation. Faces A and C are always flanges Faces B and D are always web faces Shipping marks/erection marks are assigned by faces and compass marks. This is indicated with a note on the shop drawings as follows: MARK FACE “A” NORTH

COLUMNS BOTH COLUMNS ARE IDENTICAL EXCEPT THEY ARE MIRROR IMAGES. MARK FACE “A” NORTH 1CR 1CL

COLUMNS COLUMNS 1 & 2 ARE RIGHT AND LEFT COLUMNS 1 & 3 ARE OPPOSITE HAND COLUMNS 2 & 4 ARE OPPOSITE HAND MARK FACE “A” NORTH C1 (R) C1 (L) MARK FACE “A” SOUTH
