RING OFFICIALS PROPOSALS

AIM The aim of this presentation is to outline the challenges faced by Ring Officials .

SCOPE Welfare of ring Officials. Security for Ring Officials Remuneration of Ring Officials Challenges faced Conclusion.

Welfare of ring Officials Decisions were taken in the previous Conventions regarding the welfare of Ring Officials. BSA to act according to the resolution made in previous conventions. Transportation of Ring Officials from BSA to tournament must be activated. Circular was drafted by previous BSA CEO Bongani Khumalo regarding the welfare. All the above are stipulated in Boxing Act and regulations

SECURITY OF RING OFFICIALS BSA to make sure Ring Officials go with partners in tournament. Ring Officials work in tournaments until early hours of the next day. Their lives are at stake when going home.

REMUNERATION BSA to implement the resolutions taken in the previous conventions. Ring Officials propose remuneration for different levels. Development tournament including provincial title- R500-00 South African title – R1000-00 International Fight – R1500-00

CHALLENGES Travelling long distances to tournament with no security. Attending tournaments coming from place of work without having a meal. Removal of stains of blood, Vaseline and other substances used by boxers in shirts given. Confrontations by the Boxers, Managers and Trainers including Promoters.

CONCLUSION Ring Officials dedicate themselves to make sure that work of BSA is done perfectly. Ring Officials work under duress and make sure the tournament is smoothly run. Remuneration given is not fair and market related compared to other sports what officials are paid. BSA needs to sort this out with a sense of urgency.
