University of Idaho Contact Boeing Buddies Mentor Program Fall 2010 Overview The Boeing Buddies Mentor Program is a semester long program that gives access to a cooperative form of communication between University of Idaho students and Boeing employees. This contact formed through mutual interests will provide both with a rewarding learning experience and lead to a beneficial relationship between mentor and student. Suggested Discussion Topics Advice on job opportunities & internships. Resume review and feedback. Evaluation / feedback on communication (including emails, phone conversations, power point presentations, and written work). Mock interview and discussion of strengths / areas for improvement. A typical day in mentor’s position. Critical skills for his/her job. Tips for transitioning from college to professional life. Questions about Boeing or industry as a whole. Help with navigating Boeing Enterprise Staffing System (BESS). Management vs. Technical/Professional career paths at Boeing. Development planning, goal setting, & 5 year plan framework. Student shares things they are learning in school and discusses how they may apply at Boeing. Program Goals Supporting students in their professional and personal development is the primary focus of the mentor. Students will be able to establish a relationship with a Boeing mentor to learn more about professional life and explore potential career paths. Member Responsibilities Mentor: Make initial contact with student and commit roughly two hours per month to interact with ‘Buddy’ via phone call or email. Student: Keep record of contacts with mentor and create a lessons learned document at the end of the term. This document will be used to evaluate the program and to assess the student’s participation. University Focal: Pair up students and mentors. Boeing Oversight: Generate employee interest about the program. Communicate the goals between both parties. Notify members who are selected for that semester, and relay to them the student’s contact information. Boeing Contacts Clinton Woo: University of Idaho Exec.
