Charter activation cases since 2000 The International Charter on Space and Major Disasters (Priority area 4) Charter activation cases since 2000 Floods Fires Hurricane and cyclones Landslide Earthquakes Volcanoes Oil spill Typhoon Others or not specified Tsunami Initiated by ESA and CNES Operational since 1st November 2000 Current membership: CNES, ESA, ISRO, NOAA, CONAE, CSA, JAXA, USGS, DMC International Imaging Highly effective mechanism for urgent delivering of Earth Observation sat data for disaster management More than 100 activations in 6 years, last activation: floods in Africa in November 2006 Other programme to facilitate use of satellite data for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation : UNOSAT 22/09/2018

From satellite data to decision-making (Priority area 1) Decision Maker Satellite Reception Pre-processing Geolocation Calibration Processsing Derived products Remapping Compositing Interpretation Other sources 22/09/2018

Data distribution system (area 1) IGDDS: Integrated Global Data Dissemination Service The WMO project ensuring that satellite data and products are made available worldwide in a timely and cost-efficient manner, within the WMO Information System Aims at end-to-end performances involving the following functions : Data acquisition Data dissemination (PUSH) mainly through DVB-S Data access (PULL) Data and user management 22/09/2018

Advantages of DVB-S for data dissemination Commercially available, low cost and easy-to-operate user receiving devices One-stop shop : integrated system for all data sources Scalable in adapting bandwidth to data content No need for meteorological frequency allocation IP over DVB standard coding Use of standard formats (XRIT, BUFR, HDF, GRIB, ….) Secure access control at individual file and User level Courtesy of EUMETSAT Coupled with Internet to provide a two-way system 22/09/2018

DVB-S dissemination within IGDDS C-band coverage of FengyunCast using Asia-Sat 4 Core Component of GEONETCast 22/09/2018

Data collection Data Collection Platforms (DCP) used by tidal gauges for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System 30 DCP operational ( up to 45 by end 2006 ) Data collected by Meteosat/IODC Data available through GTS and Internet 22/09/2018
