Things you should consider before deciding on using FREE tools and software Shareware Shareware is a marketing method, not a type of software Principal is “try before you buy” – there can often be a time limit on free usage Some software has limited features, with no time restriction Free Software can be redistributed and/or modified under the terms of the GNU General Public license as published by the Free Software Foundation (GNU General Public License is intended to guarantee your freedom to share and change all versions of a program - to make sure it remains free software for all its users) SCORM Compliant (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) A collection of standards and specifications for web-based e-learning which enables content to be published and used in any SCORM based application. You can mix and match content from different sources Go to View > Header & Footer to edit

Legal Considerations Data Protection Act When developing an e-learning system, ensuring best practice compliance with data protection law should always be built into the planning/design process. http://www.jisclegal.ac.uk/dataprotection/dataprotection.htm Intellectual Property Rights Staff must ensure that the use of online materials complies with the terms of use stipulated by its rights holder. Copyright infringement occurs if you use a substantial part of another's protected work. This is assessed both qualitatively and quantitatively. http://www.jisclegal.ac.uk/ipr/IntellectualProperty.htm Disability Discrimination Act It is unlawful to discriminate against a disabled person in the student services it provides or offers to provider. Student Services includes distance learning and independent learning opportunities such as e-learning. http://www.techdis.ac.uk/index.php?p=3_8_15 Go to View > Header & Footer to edit
