GSIM Statistical Classification Model Generic Statistical Information Model (GSIM) provides a set of standardized information objects – inputs and outputs of the production of statistics (UNECE HLG initiative) GSIM Statistical Classification Model is an extension of the information objects related to classifications in GSIM Concepts Group – approved by UNECE CES Dec 2013 Replaces the Neuchâtel Terminology Model for classifications Developed by 19 members from 13 national and international organizations Classification model is both a terminology and conceptual model Identifies key concepts relevant for structuring classifications and a framework for a statistical classification management system Model has two levels – 1. object types; and 2. attributes Statistics Canada • Statistique Canada 22/09/2018

GSIM Statistical Classification Model Object types: Classification family Classification series Statistical classification Level Correspondence table Classification index Classification item Map Classification index entry Attributes of statistical classification Classification version Classification variant: extension aggregate regrouping Statistics Canada • Statistique Canada 22/09/2018

Maintenance of code lists in SDMX SDMX Statistical Working Group is responsible recommending code lists used in SDMX Data Structure Definitions (DSDs) approved by the SDMX Secretariat (Cross-domain) code lists are: Intended for broad use within the SDMX community Promote cross-domain consistency Promote overall harmonization Recommended by the SWG although they are maintained by third organizations (e.g., CL_AREA, based on the ISO 3166 alpha-2 codes for countries) Statistics Canada • Statistique Canada 22/09/2018
