Presentation transcript:

Overview on WP4: Simple Calculation Method Background: assessment of the thermal behaviour and energy-efficiency of naturally or mechanically ventilated double skin facades only possible by using (complex) simulation tools Goal: development of an assessment method: integratable into assessment methods of the EPBD / harmonized with CEN standards sufficient accuracy of thermal behaviour and energy performance - usable for construction guides Main work to do regarding the assessment method: approximation of the airflow in the facade interspace adaptation of the utilisation factor of the solar gains to different facade systems comparison to results from simulations in different climatic regions

Overview on WP4: Simple Calculation Method Deliverables: (paper version + interactive usable internet tool), month 24 D7: simple calculation method (module for the integration in the extended ISO 13790/EN 832) D8: energy design guide for the assessment of the influence parameters of DSF in the early planning phase Contributions: - coordination + presentation of results to CEN: FhG-IBP - assistance in approximation of airflow + temperatures in the facade interspace: IWT, ULUND, BBRI validation tasks (existing monitoring results), functional trend scenarios dependent on the external influence parameters (temperature, solar radiation, wind) to be integrated as rules of thumb where required, documentation of application of method at selected test examples: MAB, NKUA, DIMGLASS, ENTPE, ULUND, WSP, Skanska provision of monitoring data of built examples: industry partners

Expected contributions According to the contract: coordination + presentation of results to CEN: FhG-IBP - assistance in approximation of airflow + temperatures in the facade interspace: IWT, ULUND, BBRI validation tasks (existing monitoring results), functional trend scenarios dependent on the external influence parameters (temperature, solar radiation, wind) to be integrated as rules of thumb where required, documentation of application of method at selected test examples: MAB, NKUA, ISQ, DIMGLASS, ENTPE, ULUND, WSP, Skanska provision of monitoring data of built examples: industry partners Manpower (Ph): IBP 600; ISQ 600; NKUA 350; LASH 350; BBRI 350; IWT 300 ULUND 150; MCE 100; Dimglass 50; WSP 50; SKANSKA 50 Themes: IBP procedure; ITW & ULUND approximation airflow; BBRI&MAB validation, LASH validation report, IBP, ISQ & NKUA design guide; industry partners informations for validation

Validation on the standard room from VERU

Realised validation (Energy Plus, WIS, DIN/CEN vs. measurements)

Analysis Comparison of the monthly mean values of air temperatures And air change rate in the GDF gap versus the outside Summer mode Winter mode Investigation period May 2005 to March 2006

Simple approach: The extended CEN Model A new work item at ISO TC 163 is created

Critical review of different standards prEn/ISO 13790: no DSF approach forseen so far, but as shown in the German DIN V 18599 the wintergarden approach in Annex F can be sufficient applied to DSF systems. ISO/FDIS 13789: this standard is not applicable to energy performance calculation as solar radiation is not considerd in the calculation. Not applicable DIN V 18599: the national application of prEn/ISO 13790 with an useful extention for DSF. Platzer guideline: Comparable to the DIN V 18599 DSF approach but some physical weaknesses in the calculation of the solar gains through the outer façade. No added value compared to the DIN NEN 2916: not yet analysed, no recommandations can be given WIS approach: only steady state conditions are foreseen for the calculation, no whole year aproach with dynamic characteristics of façade systems. More a tool for calculating product characteristics. EN 13830: this standards covers only definitions, no clculation procedures. Not applicable. prEn 13947: this standard covers only procedures for calculating thermal characteristics; no solar, no energy. Therefor not applicable. ISO 15099: this standard covers calculation procedures for thermal, solar and optical characteristics for façade elements, but no energy nor coupling with building behaviour is forseen. Not applicable. ISO 18292: façade rating system on the base of the prEn/ISO 13790 philosophy, but only for façade relating paramenters of the energy balance. DSF applications can be used in the same way as in prEN/ISO 13790

Main results so far the extended CEN approach fits well the measured data if ventilation rates are known the few information on ventilation rates has been analysed A design tool for the early planning stage is created some validation for the VERU facades has be done (Energy Plus, WIS, DIN) the report(s) are under preparation ISO set up a new work item on DSF
