If you are interested see your child’s homeroom teacher for more information.

How can you help? Make sure homework is completed daily Support what is going on in the classroom Offer to chaperone, make copies, help with math games, and oversee holiday parties Let your child learn to be responsible for him/herself Encourage positive study skills Know what type of learner your child is

What type of learner is your child?

Visual (Seeing) Learners: Remember best when they see something Can picture things in their minds Understand things better when they read material themselves. Take notes to help them remember things later

How to help a Visual (Seeing) Learner: Highlight whenever possible Use outlining Draw pictures Make flashcards Color-code items Use an agenda book How to help a Visual (Seeing) Learner:

Auditory (Hearing) Learners: Good talkers and good listeners Easily can remember what is said Like to repeat information aloud to themselves when they study Can be distracted by background noise Can remember songs after hearing them only a few times

How to help an Auditory (Hearing) Learner: Complete reading assignments after discussions Read difficult passages aloud Tape record notes and listen to them to study Use music to help you learn Have someone quiz you Study in a quiet place How to help an Auditory (Hearing) Learner:

Kinesthetic (Doing) Learners: Like movement and concentrate best when active Like to practice what they are learning Like to work with their hands Like to “do” rather than just read, write or listen May have a difficult time staying organized

How to help a Kinesthetic (Doing) Learner: Use concrete object to help them understand concepts Write or draw concepts while teaching someone else the information Do something active while you study Get up frequently and take breaks How to help a Kinesthetic (Doing) Learner:

Although your child may show a dominance for one of these areas, it does not mean that only that one style of learning will work for them. We put this together in hopes that these few tips will help you and your child with study skills throughout the year and into the future…thank you for your support!

Let’s Make It A Successful 6th Grade!
