Laptop Review Timeline October 2017: Multiple meetings to review successes and challenges of our initial deployment Networked Learning and IT compiled desired laptop specifications Issued Requests for Proposals November 2017: Hosted meetings with vendors Narrowed search to laptops Or Chromebook Tested and piloted devices December 2017 Continued to test and pilot laptops January 2018 Surveyed pilot review and solicitation of final pricing February/March 2018 Final pricing discussed and reviewed April 2018 Presentation to HCS Board members Final contract considered for final consideration

Laptop Selection Criteria Criteria for selection of new laptop: Supports HCS Curriculum Weight Touch screen Battery life Durability (screen, ease of battery removal, hinges) Cost Management Lenovo N24 300e Chromebook

HCS Survey Results 90% of student responding – first experience with a Chromebook 81% of students responding – Chromebook was easy to use Majority of the responses to ‘significant difference in Chromebook and current Windows laptop’: - lighter, thinner and easier to use - faster start up 100% of teachers responding ranked battery life #1 highest importance 50% of teachers responding ranked durability and weight as #2 highest importance

HCS Survey Results Concerns: Student main concerns of no hard drive and not familiar with the platform, and the different feel of the keyboard. Teacher concerns with connectivity and interactivity with projection devices and interactive boards.

HCS Laptop Selection Grades 3-8 Lenovo 300E Chromebooks: Chromebooks will be leased for grades 3-8 and for all HCS Certified School Staff. Each laptop will have a protective cover that will need to remain on at all times. Offline Textbooks: Digital curriculum that is in PDF format will be available to download via Google Drive. Laptop Usage Fee: Schools are responsible for collecting a one-time usage cost from all HCS students in grades 3-8. The cost is $35 per student. Accidental Damage Protection: HCS will purchase a three-year ADP plan to cover all warranty repairs and accidental damage.

HCS Laptop Selection Grades 9-12 Current Lenovo 11E: All current 8th-11th grade students will continue using their current Lenovo laptop for school year 18-19. HCS will reimage grade 8 laptops with the high school offline content during summer 2018. Summer Collection: HCS will still collect the laptops for high school students and store them in the eBook room for the summer. No imaging will be required for grades 9-11. No usage fee will be charged for high school student in SY 18- 19.
