Virtual Journey Through Chicagos Greatest Art Exhibits 6 th Grade L.A

Expository Writing Expository Essays: An essay created to present, share, explain, suggest, or explore information, emotion, and ideas.

The Field Trip! As a class, we have been studying the different types of writing as well as different types and styles of famous artwork. Now we will finally have the chance to connect these two lessons by going on a virtual field trip! Our English class will travel to several art museums in Chicago and get an idea of what each museum has to offer.

Step #1. While visiting each spot in Chicago, you will be asked to write down three key points about each Museum.

Step #2. Next, each member of our class will write a short expository essay describing which of the Chicago Museums you enjoyed most. Make sure to include the name of the museum and 3 specific reasons why you choose it. In addition, you must highlight one exhibit that you read about on the Museum website that you either liked or didnt like and state why.

Requirements Your essay should be 3-5 paragraphs in length and must include both an introduction and a conclusion. Remember it is not the quantity but the quality of your work that I will be looking for. Enjoy your journey through the wonders of Art in Chicago and dont forget to have fun!

Begin Your Journey The following 5 slides will contain the different Museums in which you are to visit. In addition to the museum name, the slide will also contain a link to the website of the Museum. Click the website link provided on each slide to begin your virtual field trip through Chicagos amazing art attractions.

Art Institute of Chicago The Art Institute of Chicago, located at 111 S. Michigan Ave., is probably one of Chicagos most popular tourist attractions. In addition, this museum is among one of the most famous art museums in the world. While visiting The Art Institute please take a moment to explore the various artists that are displayed on this website. If you want to get really creative, make sure to checkout the Artists in Chicago section to scope out some of the amazing talent that is hiding within the streets of our city. To get to this page, click on the Collections tab, followed by the Explore Themes tab on the main page. Then scroll down to Artists in Chicago.

Museum of Contemporary Art The Museum of Contemporary Art displays a wide range of exhibits that include a much more modern twist. Even though it was built in 1945, this museum still remains one of Chicagos most well known art museums. While visiting this museum you will find a wide array of a variety of different types of art that you may have never witnessed before. Spend some time looking around The Museum of Contemporary Art and allow yourself to get a feel for what our present day modern art really looks like. In addition, try to think of ways in which this modern version of art is different from some traditional versions of art.

National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum The National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum is a museum that most of you have not previously heard of. It is somewhat different from other art museums in that it focuses on art in connection to war. This museum may stand out to students that have an interest in history or war, especially the Vietnam War. Take some time to explore this site and allow yourself to get a feel for this type of Museum. It is a good idea to remember that not all art museums display traditional types of art, but may focus on one theme in particular to create unique and specific connections between the Museum and its visitors.

LUMA, The Loyola University Museum of Art Unlike some of the other museums we have already visited, LUMA, The Loyola University Museum of Art was only built a few years back in You will notice while visiting this museum that it is located on Loyola Universities Water Tower campus. Loyola University Museum of Art contains several exhibits, which relate to religion, culture, and different eras from history. Take some time to view some of the more recent exhibits and try and pay close attention to the different themes that are represented throughout the museum exhibits.

Smart Museum of Art University of Chicago Similar to Loyolas Museum of Art, the Smart Museum of Art University of Chicago is located on the schools Hyde Park campus. Not only is this museum unique because of the thousands of unique pieces of art that are displayed but also because it has a focus toward research work and educators of all ages.
