Focus Question: How does the Bill of Rights protect the civil liberties of people living in the United States? Do Now: Based on what you already know, list as many rights as you can think of that are guaranteed to people living in the U.S.

The Bill of Rights The first ten amendments to the Constitution. Main purpose = to protect people against government abuse. Was added to the Constitution because the Anti-Federalists demanded it. amendment = a change to the Constitution
