Outline Aristotle University of Thessaloniki International Relations Department – main activities Inter-university agreements - Geographical distribution - Aims Staff and student mobility Results and tools available to achieve goals Support services In my presentation today, I will be giving you some information about the city of Thessaloniki and about the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I will briefly describe the main activities of the International Relations Department and give you details about our many inter-university agreements. I will present some figures about staff and student mobility, describe how we achieve our goals, and the support services the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki provides with respect to our work.

International Relations Department Main activities Manage inter-university agreements Facilitate staff mobility Promote student exchanges Participate in international organizations Disseminate information Host visitors Participate in international events Provide administrative support The Department of International Relations serves as an information centre for international relations matters and links AUTh to institutions of higher education worldwide. It has enabled the University to develop a strong presence and high reputation in the international scientific and academic community.   The Department’s main activities are to: award, promote, coordinate and manage inter-university agreements for academic cooperation agreements with foreign institutions enable AUTh faculty members to come into contact with foreign universities in order to develop research collaborations and programmes and to pursue teaching activities that contribute to the exchange of knowledge and experience promote and facilitate the exchange of students ensure, facilitate, monitor and fulfill AUTh’s participation in international associations and organisations inform the university community on issues of international scientific cooperation such as conferences, inter-cultural exchanges, scholarships and competitions organise the hosting of foreign scientists and delegations participate in international exhibitions and events provide administrative support for international conferences, workshops and networks in which AUTh is involved

Support services Accommodation for visiting staff either at University hostel for visiting professors Selected city hotels Subsistence allowance Welcome meal Student hostel for exchange students Faculty members from foreign universities are provided with accommodation at the University’s own hostel, which is of a standard appropriate for staff members.   In certain cases, accommodation may be provided at selected city hotels, for example if the hostel is full, or if the visitor’s purpose or rank warrants it. Subject to the approval of the Rector’s council, a subsistence allowance may also be awarded. A welcome lunch or dinner is offered to foreign visitors at selected restaurants in the city. Exchange students are provided with accommodation at the various student hostels.
