Project Options and Examples This project will count for 1/3 of your Quarter 4 grade!!!

Pop Up Book

Pop Up Book Requirements (Option 1): 3 Puzzles throughout the book At least 1 thing pops up on each page 1 Pull part in the whole book Neat and Colorful Can be about multiple topics we learned or in great detail about 1 topic that we learned. Front cover must have clever title, be neat and colorful Book must look as professional as possible

Physics Build

Physics Build Project Requirements (Option 2): Project must be stable and mobile. Structure must be freestanding. Coaster: Must have 5 turns, 2 loops and 3 hills. Rube Goldberg: Must have 3 inclined planes, 2 Levers, 1 Pulley, 1 Wheel and Axle and 1 screw 3 Points of Potential Energy, 2 Points of Kinetic Energy, 2 points of Static Friction and 2 points of Air Friction all must be labeled and calculated Newton’s 2nd Law F=MA must be used at 2 points in the structure You should have a 2 page paper that explains how the laws of motion are relevant to your project.

Bottle Rocket

Tension Car

Rocket/Car Project Requirements (Option 3): You should make and test at least 1 prototype Your build should be able to withstand multiple launches Bottle Rocket needs to fly a minimum of 30 feet Tension Car needs to roll a minimum of 15 feet Minimum 2 page paper, 1.5 spaced size 12 font, on how Newton’s Laws of motion play a role in your project. Paper should also include How Potential and Kinetic Energy are present in your project. You must have in your paper a data table that shows at least 3 trials, their results and a graph of the data. There should be a conclusion made based off of your data.

Board/Card Games

Board Game Project Requirements (Option 4): Complete game board that can fold up into prepared box or package At least 2 types of question or chance cards Player pieces A way to have piece players move on the board (Dice etc.) Board game should be made to reflect a scientific concept that we learned this year. It can be about 1 topic in great detail or many different topics in an overview. Your game should include detailed but concise rules, guidelines and an FAQ page for players that might get stuck. Your game should be neat, colorful and look professional Your entire game should be stored in a professional looking package.

Traits, Limbs and Tech

Prosthetics Project Requirements (Option 5) Make a Prosthetic limb prototype that can accomplish a task (Picking up a can, Kick a ball etc.) 3 page paper explaining how your limb works and how you would incorporate technology into your final design The paper should also include How the laws of motion, simple machines and energy are present and interacting in your project You should include research you found about prosthetic limbs and advancements that are being made in the field. Citations should be included.

If you would like to complete a different project of equal weight and scope that is not listed, then you may of course run the project by Ms. Miller for approval. YOU MUST GET APPROVAL FROM MS. MILLER FOR ANY PROJECT NOT LISTED!!!!!

Presentation All individuals must give a presentation of no more than 5 minutes that displays the Final Product Presentation should be accompanied by a Google Slides presentation submitted on Google Classroom All members of the group must participate in presentation. NO one can just stand there!! Presentation should include; What your project is, How you (group) came up with it/why you chose it, How it demonstrates scientific concepts we learned, What was the most difficult part and how you would improve it if you had more time.

LT’s Your project should Demonstrate I can build a model or project that exemplifies a scientific concept that we learned this year I can provide written text that explains my model or project and how it applies to scientific concepts we learned this year I can use the Engineering process to build the best prototype, model or project possible in the time given I can present my model, prototype or project to a group and articulate its function and application to scientific concepts using scientific vocabulary

RULES Put everything back as you found it. If you got it out it is your responsibility to make sure it is put back, even if you weren’t the last one to use it. (Ex: Susie gets out hot glue gun and pie pan, after Susie uses it Jake uses it, Susie makes sure Jake puts it away. If its not put away Susie will be the one not allowed to use the hot glue gun next class.) Same goes with paint, scissors etc. No throwing things at all!! If you do then ‘Hello office’ and getting behind on your project which again is 1/3 of your grade. If you are painting or cutting with exacto or saw you must have a piece of cardboard down to protect tables and floors If painting please use apron hanging in science room No one works in the science prep room it is only to get materials and clean up. All tools must be used in a safe way. No playing around with them. You will get the last 10 minutes of class everyday too clean up. Hot glue guns unplugged and put in their pie pan on the front table You will not leave the room until the room is clean and put back.
