Upper Limb Prosthetic Adaptation/Redesign Cassie Edwards, Meg Stevenson, Amy Thomas, Meagan Williams Advisor: Dr. Mark Richter

Project Objectives Design or modify an already existing design for an upper limb prosthetic for a boy with upper limb deformities Create an upper limb prosthesis

Project Background 8 year old boy born without an ulna in either arm and only has a thumb and index finger on each hand Limited use of elbows and fingers Currently has an prosthesis which is used for limited independent dressing and some reaching tasks

Project Background Drawbacks: Taking prosthesis on and off takes considerable amount of time and effort Redesign existing prosthesis to make it more functional for an active 8-year-old boy

Work Completed Requested permission to work with all of the people necessary. Asked permission from the mother to let other people become involved. Contacted Aaron Fitzsimmons, a local expert in the field of prosthetics who has agreed to help ensure the practicality of any proposed design and to aid in the creation of the prosthetic. Obtained research materials from Aaron Fitzsimmons.

Current Work Waiting for a response from the mother. Researching more extensively the current upper limb technology and components of those devices.

Future Work Decide on a device that we wish to modify to suit Matt's needs. Begin actual design work.
