The brake light switch is the relay switch of your car, when the brake pedal is pressed it provides signals to the brake lights to turn on.
The switch is a powered by a single electrical cable, so it can fail over time and prevent the brake switch to on.
More often the accidents are caused due to failed brake lights and you will find yourself getting ticketed and pay fines.
Always check out the brake light bulbs for damages because if they are damaged then it will mimic a bad switch.
If the bulbs in your car are fined, then it's best to replace the brake light switch by own or by a reputed mechanic.

Find the brake light switch
Generally, the brake light switches are placed in the same location on all cars.
You will need to open the driver's side door and get down on your knees to properly reach the brake light switch.
You can use a headlamp to recognize the light because it can be dark in the dashboard area.
Reach the dashboard area where you feel the brake pedals and find the brake pedals that connects and locate the brake light switch.
Access the brake light switch
When you find the brake light switch, you will notice that a cover under the dashboard to cover the switch.
The brake light switch will be attached to several numbers of screws which are usually attached with Phillips-head.
It's wise to use a power screwdriver that can be angled to remove each of the screws found on the cover.
Then you will place the screws off to the side and then snap the cover off.
Remove the brake light switch
Under the first cover you will find another cover just above the brake light switch and this cover is attached with bolts.
The number of bolts attached to this cover varies according to the model of the car.
For removing each of the bolts you can use a socket wrench and place them off to the sides with the screws.
Now you can easily remove the brake light switch covers to get the actual switch. Disconnect the connector on the switch by sliding it off the contact.
Replace the brake light switch
If you want to install new brake lights then the process is very easier and simple.
You can connect the removed power cable to the new switch and make sure that it is pushed all the way on the new switch.
With the plate cover put the switch back under the dashboard and replace the removed bolts systematically.
Now replace the earlier removed cover and snapped the cover over the brake light switch and then replace the removed screws.
