THAILAND ORIENTAL HORNBILL RE-INTRODUCTION

Hello! ⊷ There are 54 species of hornbills in the world! ⊷ The Great Hornbill and the Oriental Pied Hornbill are two of 13 hornbill species native to Thailand. 2

Reintroduction SUPPORT …. The hornbill reintroduction project is about bringing back this iconic species to where it belongs. Partnership with local universities and local experts have been established in order to make sure that the right stakeholders would be involved and that we have full support from institutions and local populations. WHY … At Mae kampong, a village nested between two national parks at an elevation of about 1000 meters, in the province of Chiang Mai, there used to be at least two species of hornbills. According to locals the great hornbill and the oriental pied hornbill used to soar these skies but have been “extinct ” for more than 40 years. More info on how to this project can be found at ⊷ 3
