Presentation transcript:

The AC systems were incorporated into the vehicles to allow the passengers to commute and embark on vacations in greater comfort.

We all just turn on the AC switch and enjoy the cold air inside the car, which gives relief from the hot and humid climates.

The air condition system of the car is not just the switch and the air vents, a number of other components work simultaneously to provide the cool and refreshing air.

The majority of the AC systems comprise of the following parts: Compressor Condenser Dryer Accumulator Expansion valves Evaporator Clutches

1. Compressor

The air compressor is the heart of an AC system, which pressurizes the refrigerant, senses the temperature in your car and makes desired changes.

Without the compressors, the fans can do nothing more than suck the outside air and its atmospheric temperatures into your vehicle.

The air compressor itself is powered by the serpentine belt and if the belt snaps, then neither the AC system nor the car will function.

2. Condenser

The condenser is the component responsible for converting hot air into a cold fluid, required to get the cool breeze.

Mostly, the condenser is situated in front of the radiator for radiating the humid air that’s drawn into the air compressor.

Then, the condenser depressurizes, cools and liquefies that air and finally sends it to the dryer.

3. Dryer

In cars with thermal expansion valves, as atmospheric air enters the A/C system, the receiver traps all the water, moisture, and other impurities, which filters them.

In the absence of the dryer, the impurities would penetrate and damage the air compressor and even release acidic contaminants into the system.

The dryer safeguards the air compressor from dirt, moisture, and other outside elements and needs to be replaced whenever it is clogged and malfunctions.

4. Accumulator

On vehicles equipped with orifice tubes instead of thermal expansion valves, an accumulator does the work of a dryer.

Like a dryer, the accumulator also filters dirt and eliminates moisture from the incoming air before it passes through the A/C system.

The accumulator also restricts the level of refrigerant that gets into the evaporator and safeguards the air compressor from getting damaged.

5. Expansion valves

In the AC system, the condenser and evaporator are divided either by the expansion valve or an orifice tube.

The valve gauges the output heat and pressure levels of the condenser and accordingly regulates the refrigerant that enters the evaporator.

The AC stops delivering sufficient amounts of cool air when the valve or tube is clogged with debris and other impurities.

6. Evaporator

The evaporator is the component that cools the air at any temperature and renders it moisture free.

The cooling occurs as the air passes through refrigerant in the evaporator, which simultaneously draws atmospheric heat from within the car.

The failure of the air condition system to deliver sufficient coolness could be the result of a faulty evaporator.

6. Clutches

When we press the AC button, then the air compressor is activated by an electromagnetic clutch.

This results in the pressurization of refrigerant for the condenser before it’s finally dispatched to the evaporator.

Temperatures within the evaporator are recorded and regulated by the cycling clutch switch, which protects the core of the evaporator from freezing entirely.
