Presentation transcript:

There are two types of speed sensors are available in the car such as engine speed sensor and transmission speed sensor.

The engine speed sensor detects the revolutions per minute of the engine's crankshaft spinning and the transmission speed sensor detects the fastest traveling of your car.

In the dashboard, the tachometer represent the engine speed, as well as the speedometer, represent the transmission speed.

The engine control unit receives the information from the sensor and takes appropriate action to perform all the functions of the engine and transmission.

If you find that the sensors of your car are damaged, then the following points will help you to determine the faulty sensor in your car.

Damaged cruise control

If the cruise control mechanism of your car is working properly, then the transmission speed sensor of your car run functionally.

When the engine control unit unable to receive the information about the speed of the car, then the cruise control unable to maintain the same speed.

If the sensor fails to deliver the accurate data to the onboard computer of the car, the powertrain control module sends an error code to the car.

If you notice that when you press the cruise control control button it does not engage, then it may be the reason of faulty speed sensor.

Check engine light

When you find that the check engine light of your car is illuminated, this is a clear indication of a faulty speed sensor of your car.

The ECU depends on the speed information of the engine's crankshaft. When it does not receive the information, it can automatically illuminate the check engine light.

It also indicates the increases of tailpipe emissions that can surpass the acceptable limits for environmental contaminants from cars.

When you notice that the check engine light comes on, you should contact a mechanic to scan the error codes.

Malfunctioned speedometer

When you find that your car's speedometer stops functioning all of a sudden, then it will clearly indicate that the speed sensor has some defects.

The malfunctioning of the speed sensor indicates that the speedometer of your car will not have the ability to read the speed of the car.

This issues is very risky for your car because you will drive your car without aware about the exact speed of the car that has registered.

The malfunctioning of the speedometer due to the faulty speed sensor can cause unnecessary and unavoidable accidents.

Improper shifting

Without the valid speed signal from the sensor, the power control unit not able to control the shifting of gears within the transmission.

It may cause a problem with the sensor and impact the shift timing as well as extending the time interval between the transmission shifts.

When you find that the transmission shifts are hard, then it can damage the internal components of the car.

If you notice that the transmission of your car is shifting harshly or roughly, then you need to contact a mechanic as soon as possible.

Conclusion

If you find any of the above symptoms in your car, then take your car to a professional mechanic to diagnose it and to identify the faults.

Before visiting an auto repair shop ascertain the real problems of the speed sensor in detail.
