5 Do’s and Don’ts in Writing a College Application Essay College Essays Can Reveal the Real ‘You’. /

College Essays Can Reveal the Real ‘You’ ›Test scores and student grades surely are the most vital factors in determining admissions decisions, application essays often play a significant role as well. ›Essays can give the admission readers a real sense of your personality, way better than anything else could. Some believe these essays are a “glimpse into your soul.” ›At the yearly conferences of NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling), college deans have accepted time and again that poorly written essays can turn out to be a ‘NO’ even for students with top grades and scores while eloquent and engaging essays can let the genie out of the bottle and turn the tide towards acceptance for a student with not so good grades and scores. /

5 best do’s and don’ts to assist you in writing college essays. Do’s ›Write essays that are brief but comprehensive. Try to inform, apprise and amuse. ›Be Real and just Be Yourself. ›Express yourself as a genuine, humble and modest personality. ›Acknowledge each aspect of the essay question as best as you can keeping within the word limit provided. ›Give the impression that you have real knowledge about a college and many of its resources, including programs, activities courses and students. Don’t ›Ramble on and write too much thinking that longer is better. It’s not. ›Write just to impress the admissions people instead of what you really think. ›Blow your own horn, brag or boast so you come across as arrogant. ›Beat about the bush rather than answering what the question asks and exceed the specified word limit. ›Demonstrate that you know little about a college by writing inaccurate or trite things about it.

Conclusion College Application Essays are a wonderful opportunity for you to show admissions people who you really are, what is your mindset, how well you perform, and even your sense of humor. /
