How to Deal with Transmission Leaks in your Mercedes Symptoms of a Bad Front and Rear Wheel Bearings

Cars are equipped with front and rear wheel bearings in order to reduce the amount of friction in the spinning wheels.

In the absence of the wheel bearings, there would be a lot of heat generated in the wheels and tires of the car due to severe friction.

The wheel bearings reduce the generation of high heat by serving as a lubricant for the wheels and tires.

The wheel bearings can be seen installed in the drive axle of each wheel as well as in the steering assembly.

Usually, the wheel bearings last longer, but they do start to go bad when they lose their ability to lubricate the wheels and tires.

Below are some of the common symptoms associated with bad front and rear wheel bearings.

Trembling in wheels

Worn out wheel bearings always result in producing a lot of shakiness and vibrations from the wheels while driving on the road.

Such vibrations are more intense as the wheels are subject to more friction which causes them to move out of place.

Variable movement

The car will suddenly slow down on its own as the worn out wheel bearings do not allow the wheels to move smoothly.

If you let this problem persist, then eventually the wheels will get totally clogged and not move unless the bearings are replaced.

Grinding noise

In the absence of good wheel bearings, there is going to be a lot of metal contact which will produce unwanted grinding noises.

These grinding noises will get louder as the car's speed increases and result in generating too much friction.

Tire wear

When you drive with bad wheel bearings in the steering assembly, then the tires will get unevenly worn which is quite unusual.

Bad wheel bearings cause alignment issues and the tire, which have the most wear is the one whose wheel bearing needs to be replaced.

Steering wheel vibrations

The vibrations in the steering wheel can be felt even at lower speeds when the reason is bad wheel bearings.

The vibration will just increase as you accelerate and intensify with time, for which the wheel bearings must be replaced at the earliest.

In the end

With bad wheel bearings, the wheels and tires will generate a lot more heat than normal and will not move smoothly anymore.

These are the symptoms that you should not ignore and fix the issue as soon as possible to avoid being stranded on the road due to a locked wheel.
