What to Expect – 3 Hours Section 1: Multiple Choice Listening 20% Reading 30% Section 2: Free Response Writing 30% Speaking 20%

Section 1: Multiple Choice ListeningTips Short dialogues Narratives Variety of contexts LISTEN carefully What is the setting? What is the topic?

Section 1: Multiple Choice Listeningtips Long Dialogues Long narratives 2 minutes to read over before listening to recording Read, listen for any sources, setting, general information You may listen first/take notes OR Try to answer questions as the recording is playing LISTEN

Section 1: Multiple Choice Reading ComprehensionTips: Journalistic and/or literary selections followed by Comprehension questions Quickly scan questions first Read carefully Underline, circle anything that you think is important

General Tips for Multiple Choice Concentrate on What YOU KNOW DO NOT get hung up on unknown vocabulary Guess if you can eliminate two answers

Section II: Free Response Interpersonal Writing (informal) Tips 10 minutes/ 60 words or more Context may be , letter, short note etc. Focus on task completion, language use, and topic development 10% of free response score Address each bullet point!! Follow instructions Make sure you have a salutation & closing Be careful with tenses If you have time to edit, do so!

Section II: Free Response Presentational (Formal) Writing tips 55 minutes Listening, reading, writing 3 fuentes (sources) – 2 articles, 1 listening Synthesis, summary! Cite sources ( fuente 1) Cohesive writing Underline/take notes while reading/listening Cite sources Do not simple summarize each source– synthesize Intro/thesis (1 paragraph) Development (2-3 paragraphs) Conclusion (1 paragraph)

Section II: Free Response Interpersonal Speaking (informal) Tips Simulated Conversation 20 seconds per response 5-6 opportunities to speak 10% of speaking score Read over outline & jot down ideas Listen for tenses!! Address each bullet point Cross off or check off prompts completed

Section II: Free Response Presentational (Formal Speaking) tips 2 fuentes ( 1 oral, 1 written) 5 minutes to read, then listen 2 minutes to plan, 2 minutes to speak Cite sources 10% speaking score Underline and take notes while listening and reading CITE Sources
