Presentation transcript:

The requirement for donor blood is on rise. Millions of people need blood transfusions each year. Diseases like dengue, sickle cell anemia, certain types of cancers, surgeries, accidents, natural and man-made disasters etc have been the major cause for the need of donor blood all over the world. Against an annual demand of 12 million units, India is only able to collect around 9 million. Blood makes up to 7% of a person’s body weight and the transferable products that can be derived from blood are red cells, platelets, plasma and cryoprecipitate. A unit of donated whole blood can produce at least 3 products; hence each donation can help save up to three lives.

The President of Narayan Seva Sansthan Mr. Prashant Agarwal encouraged and enlightened everyone to join forces with the drive. “There is no substitute for human blood as it cannot be manufactured. Donating blood is a noble cause and a selfless act which helps save live. Narayan Seva Sansthan Giving your blood to someone in need is a gift, and just as important as donating organs since it’s like offering someone a chance at life. Donating your blood to someone is one of the most positive ways to help someone in need,” he exclaimed.

Blood donation is actually a safe and sterile process that ensures safety and health benefits to both donor as well as the recipient. Blood donation is a simple process that includes medical history, physical exam, and donation. There are health benefits to donating blood that not only positively affects the recipient, but also the donor. So, how blood donation helps you-

Better blood flow for you Repeated blood donations may help your blood to flow better. Having a diet that is high in sugar, exposure to radio frequencies, emotional stress, and high cholesterol can make your blood hypercoagulable. It essentially makes your blood thick and slow moving. Donating blood helps you release those extra toxins from your body. Balance iron levels in your blood Having too much iron in your body is actually bad. Your iron levels benefits greatly when you donate blood. For every unit of blood you donate, you lose about one- quarter of a gram of iron. Blood donors have actually been found to be 88 percent less likely to suffer from a heart attack due to the effects of iron during donation.

Recharge someone else’s health Your donation could help someone dealing with cancer, bleeding disorders, and chronic anemia. Storing your own blood could be beneficial to you in the case that a compatible donor wouldn’t be available. “Countless lives are saved every day due to generous donors who give of their own blood for the benefit of others. Life is precious and so is being a life-saver.”
