Brainstorming Facts to Look for In an Ideal Tire Shop Is It An Authorized Seller Of Branded Tires? The main features that make any business grow lie in its originality and creditability. For this reason, it is recommended that you locate a tire shop that is an authorized center dealing with the best brands on the market. Do They Have a Well-Trained Workforce? Check to see if the shop has a team of professional technicians equipped with skills and experience to handle all types of tires. Unqualified and inexperienced personnel will only make the matter worse thus endangering your life. So choose a tire shop with a trained and knowledgeable workforce. Do They Service The Cars Of Your Model And Make? This is another factor you need to consider. Before taking your tires to the shop, you need to confirm if they service the cars of your model and make. Go to a tire shop with technicians that are familiar with the model and make of your car. Do They Render Expert Guidance? Make sure to ask if they provide any form of consultative guidance for customers. These services are provided by skilled experts who guide you about the durability, quality, types, and prices of tires available on the market. They should be able to tell you the most appropriate tire for your vehicle.

When Should You Decide to Change Your Tire? Do a thorough tire check for any damage and wear Check your tires at regular intervals for any damage or wear and tear such as cracks or even discoloration. If you are not sure what needs to be done, visit your local auto service center and ask for a free tire inspection. Their experts should be happy to do it for you. They will let you know if you really need a new tire or not. Things to Remember When Buying a New Tire Furnish the details such as the year, make and model of your vehicle to the tire shop and ask them to give the best fit of tires for your car. Some tire shops now let you use Tire Finder to search for tires with the tire size of your car. If you do not know the tire size, you can look it up on your tire’s sidewall, or on the placard inside the driver’s side door, or in your owner’s manual.

Steps to Take to Prevent Tire Damage Be alert and drive safe It is important to be alert on the road, even if you have been driving for a long time and know all the roads. No matter how experienced and efficient you may be, you still cannot predict what is going to happen the next moment. A lot of external factors can affect your vehicle’s tires. It could be other drivers, poor roads, diversions due to some ongoing work on a road and even harsh climate. Keep clear of potholes, barriers and litter In many advertisements you may have seen about the sturdiness of certain tires. Though they do provide the required stability, it is not possible every time. Many a times, climate plays a very prominent role and roads expand, crack or become jarring because of the dips due to temperature changes. Over time, when you go from the same road repeatedly, or if the cavities are too deep and hard, there are chances your tire(s) might get punctured or even get damaged beyond repair. Do not overload the vehicle Never keep more luggage or have more passengers in your vehicle than the limit specified in the owner’s manual or the placard in the vehicle door that specifies the gross vehicular weight rating. Overloading your vehicle can cause severe damage to the tires or even cause a blowout. Always keep the tires sufficiently inflated Know the right PSI level that your tire should have, based on the road condition and number of passengers and keep the tires properly inflated before you start your journey or even short trips. By doing this, you can see the performance of the tires greatly improve and they will wear evenly. The overall weight of the car will also be balanced. This also keeps the tires fit for a longer time and improves fuel efficiency.

Why should I make sure my vehicle’s tires are properly inflated? Optimized fuel usage Keeping your tires well inflated can help you drive smoother. If the wheels are not properly inflated, the engine will have to do additional work to keep the wheels rolling which will turn your vehicle into a fuel guzzler. With tires checked for air, regular oil changes and safe driving practices, you can save a lot on fuel and hence time and money. Safer steering For you to drive safely and smoothly, the steering and the wheels should always be in proper sync. Even if there is slightest of lag, it can make a huge difference, as the wheels won’t respond quickly when you steer. This can be dangerous, particularly on slippery roads. On the other hand, over-inflated tires will be fast and won’t have much grip and there are chances that they will bounce and skitter around on the road. Rim protection If you do not maintain your tires well and keep them insufficiently inflated for long, the rims will wear out and get damaged. This will be a bad situation especially because it is very easy to keep your tires properly inflated. Prevention of blown tires If the tires are under or over inflated, there are chances they will burst when bumps are encountered on the road. Under-inflated tires are likely to be quickly pressed against the rims of your wheel, whereas, over-inflated tires will mostly come apart on a bumpy road.

Making the Comparison between All-Season and Winter Tires  All-Season Tires Advantages Advantages They combine the benefits of both the summer and winter tires They come equipped with a longer tread as they are made for virtually all the seasons They provide a better and effortless ride when compared to snow tires. These are built with focus as performance All season tires are affordable for drivers who do not have to drive in extreme climate conditions Disadvantages These tires do not provide sturdiness during winter months These tires are quick to lose pressure and grip if the temperatures drop too low and roads are filled with hail, sleet and snow. The all-season tires are not giving much traction or resistance and while you may think they are more durable and dynamic than other seasonal tires, the less traction makes it unsuitable for certain roads and climates.

Making the Comparison between All-Season and Winter Tires  Winter tires Advantages These tires have deeper grooves so that the snow can be routed and most part of the tires are in contact with the road during bad weather. Winter tires are made of rubber compounds and provide a superb grip in situations where all-seasons tire does not provide much support or stability. Winter tires help you with more stability and mobility even when you are travelling in freezing cold weather or areas covered with heavy snow. The difference of these tires with all-wheel drive is that winter tires provide full support for your car to steer and stop not only in snow but also in extremely cold weather. Winter tires have superior grip and can provide good support whenever you want, instead of using the grip of all the tires for acceleration. It does not matter which wheel(s) of your car gets the power, your car will be able to deal with the condition well. Disadvantages The car speed will be slow compared to the speed with other tires. This also restricts the amount of acceleration that can be given especially while travelling on normal roads where you would want to drive faster. The wear and tear are more due to the soft rubber material which is constantly exposed to tough road conditions. This leads to reduced life of these tires compared to all-season tires. Winter tires tend to damage the roads because of the studded snow tires. This causes the roads to deteriorate over time. Some states have a legislation affirming limit the time-period for which these tires can be permitted to be used in the vehicles.

Tire Maintenance Tips to Remember Wheel balance A wheel balance has small weights that are placed around the wheel for balancing the tire and wheel assembly. This helps in preventing uneven wear of tire and minimizes the wheel vibrations during driving especially at high speeds. This procedure is performed when you install new tires in your car and should also be performed as a maintenance activity after 6000 miles or as per your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation. Tire pressure The PSI (Pressure per Square Inch) of your tires depends on the type of your tires and also the type of driving you do. The owner’s manual that you have should have a recommended PSI based on your car and if it is not there, you can check with the tire manufacture for the range. Generally, PSU should be between Tread depth It is natural for the tread of the tires to wear down over time. Though proper inflation can help prevent the uneven wear on the tire tread, it is bound to happen after driving for years. If the treads wear out, you will need new tires. To check if the tire treads need replacement, you only need a penny. Literally. Our very own Lincoln sir can help with your car maintenance. That said, all you need to do is place the penny into the grove of your tread with the head down. If you see the full Lincoln head, you surely need to get the current tires replaced by new one. Sidewalls You need to check for any cracks in the rubber, specifically spots that look more worn out and bends in the wheel rim. Poor alignment, low tire pressure and reckless driving are some of the reasons for damage in the sidewalls. If there are any cracks or bends, immediately get them repaired or replaced.
