From a 2017 Brookings Institute survey Does the First Amendment protect hate speech? 44 percent of college students said no.

Is it acceptable for a student group to disrupt a speaker known for making offensive and hurtful statements by loudly shouting so that the audience cannot hear the speaker? 51 percent of college students said yes. 62 percent of Democrat students said yes. 39 percent of Republican students said yes.  

10 percent of women college students said yes. Is it acceptable for a student group to use violence to prevent a speaker known for making offensive and hurtful remarks from speaking? 19 percent of college students said yes. 30 percent of male college students said yes. 10 percent of women college students said yes.

From a 2015 Pew Research Center survey… 40 percent of Millennials say the government should be able to prevent statements offensive to minority groups. 27 percent of Gen Xers say the government should be able to prevent statements offensive to minority groups. 24 percent of baby boomers say the government should be able to prevent statements offensive to minority groups. 21 percent of Silent Generation say the government should be able to prevent statements offensive to minority groups
