Licensing Education Products through CSP Talk Track: Let’s now turn our attention to which education products are available through CSP and how they are sold
Licensing EDU in CSP Becoming an Authorized Education Partner Verifying education customer eligibility Product availability Focus on Microsoft 365 A3/A5 Understanding and transacting Student Use Benefit licenses Student Use Benefit license use rights Understanding and transacting Microsoft 365 A1 Talk Track: This is the list of topics that we’ll focus on in this section
Education and CSP Selling Products Talk Track: The first thing we need to look at is what you need to do to be eligible to sell products through CSP Selling Products
Selling Education Products through CSP Direct Partners and Indirect Resellers can sell education products if they attain Authorized Education Partner (AEP) status 1 Validate your MPN ID 2 Study the Training Material 3 Complete the Test Module 4 Complete Application Form, Review Terms & Conditions of Certification Talk Track: All CSP partners, whether Direct Partners or Indirect Resellers, can only sell education products through CSP if they attain Authorized Education Partner, or AEP, status And how is that done? (click) It’s very straightforward – you need to be a member of the Microsoft Partner Network, and then to study some training material since you’re required to pass a licensing exam, and then accept some terms and conditions The terms and conditions are important since this is where you confirm that you will only sell education products to education customers, and that you’ll sell them in the right way, following the rules, so that your customers remain compliant The link where this is done is shown on the slide https://www.mepn.com/mepn/JoinorRenew.aspx
Selling Education Products through CSP Ensure customers are eligible as stated in the Qualified Educational User Definition document Enable customers for the Education products within Partner Center Talk Track: One of the things you agree to when you become an AEP is to only sell education products to eligible education customers and it’s the (click) Qualified Educational User Definition document that sets out what customers are eligible education customers Once you are happy that your customer is eligible for the education offerings then they need to be marked (click) within the CSP portal, Partner Center, as an education customer otherwise the education offerings will not be available for them
Education and CSP Focus on Microsoft 365 A3 Talk Track: Let’s now look at what products are available for you to sell, and we’ll focus on Microsoft 365 A3 first Focus on Microsoft 365 A3

The grey bars show that the products are also available as standalone offerings as well as part of the Microsoft 365 Education plans. Office 365 A3 has parallels with the Enterprise plan - Office 365 E3 but it’s better! It includes Office 365 Cloud App Security which is only part of the Enterprise plan Office 365 E5 Microsoft 365 A5 builds on that and has Office 365 A5, and contains everything in Office 365 A3 as well as the advanced security and productivity components you see listed Then there’s Windows 10 – Windows 10 Education A3 which is Windows 10 Enterprise E3 with education-specific default settings, and Windows 10 Education A5 which is Windows 10 Education A3 with Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection. It’s important to also note here that these are user-licensed offerings for Windows – different to the device licenses that are available And then EMS – and you can see that there are E3 and E5 editions And, finally, Minecraft: Education Edition is in both Microsoft 365 A3 and A5 We saw that Office 365 A1 is a free product – the Microsoft A3 and A5 are paid-for products and you can see the prices here (click) with, as we would expect, prices for faculty and students available So, there are our Microsoft 365 Education suites available in CSP EMS E3 ERP - USD per user/month Intune/Intune for Education Azure Active Directory Premium Plan 1 Azure Information Protection Premium Plan 1 Advanced Threat Analytics EMS E3 + Azure Active Directory Premium Plan 2 Azure Information Protection Premium Plan 2 Microsoft Cloud App Security Faculty Student M365 A3 $ 5.75 $ 4.25 M365 A5 $ 10.75 $ 8.25 Minecraft: Education Edition Minecraft: Education Edition * See https://products.office.com/en-us/academic/compare-office-365-education-plans for a complete list of services
Special Use Rights for CSP Education Products Office 365 A3/A5 Standard and Enterprise CALs for: Exchange Server SharePoint Server Skype for Business Server EMS E3/E5 Windows Server and Windows Server ADRMS CALs Advanced Threat Analytics CML System Center Configuration Manager CML System Center EndPoint Protection SL Microsoft 365 Education A3/A5 Rights as individual suites No rights to install productivity server products No rights to install Office Professional Plus instead of Office 365 ProPlus, or any downgrade rights No rights to downgrade Windows 10 Talk Track: Let’s take a look at what special use rights customers who buy the education products through CSP get First of all, licenses for Office 365 A3 and A5 (click) give rights to Standard and Enterprise CALs for Exchange, SharePoint and Skype for Business Server. It’s important to note though that these CAL rights give access to server that is already licensed with a server license Then EMS E3 and E5 (click) give rights to the Windows and System Center components of the Enterprise CAL Suite If we were to look at Microsoft 365 Education A3 and A5 then these licenses give use rights as per the individual products (click). There are extra rights available in EES – listed here – and these are NOT available for CSP customers. Exchange, SharePoint, and Skype for Business Server are not available in CSP and thus there are no rights to install those products. Office Professional Plus 2016 or earlier versions or Windows 8.1 are not available either, and thus the rights to install those products are not included in licenses acquired through CSP As usual, it’s the Microsoft Cloud Agreement that controls exactly what use rights are available when licenses are acquired through CSP
Partner Center: Transacting Microsoft 365 A3 Alex Talk Track: Here you can see (as we mentioned earlier) that there are Faculty and Student offers for Microsoft 365 A3 and you would create a Subscription in the usual way for those licenses However, you’ll notice that there’s also an option to create a Student Use Benefit Subscription for Microsoft 365 A3 and we need to look at that now
Education and CSP Student Use Benefit Talk Track: This is something else that has been available in other channels for education customers and it’s now available in CSP Student Use Benefit
Student Use Benefit Requirements Knowledge Workers License all Knowledge Workers with qualifying products to be eligible to order relevant $0 student use benefit licenses Knowledge Workers Any employee (including a student employee), contractor, or volunteer who uses a product or qualified device for the benefit of the Institution or within the user’s relationship with the Institution Talk Track: One of the benefits of CSP is that customers can buy what they want when they want – there are no minimums or long term commitments involved. However, the student use benefit allows customers to make a certain level of commitment and get benefits in return for doing that Let’s take a look at how it works First of all, what commitment is required? (click) Institutions are only eligible for student use benefit licenses if, in common with the other programs, they license ALL of their Knowledge Workers, and then you proceed as with the other programs ordering the relevant $0 SKUs for the student use benefit licenses What’s a Knowledge Worker? (click) Here’s the definition (which is the same for other programs). This definition is included in the Product Terms document Let’s look now at what the qualifying licenses are
Student Use Benefit Page 102, April 2018 Product Terms Talk Track: As we’ve already said, the Product Terms is released every month and is a great source of licensing information New for the February edition was a whole lot of information about the student use benefit and this is the updated snippet from the April 2018 document. Here you can see a table with the qualifying products, the numbers of licenses that you are allowed to order, and then for each of the education programs, what’s available in each Let’s take Microsoft 365 A3 as our example again. We know that if we want to be eligible to order Student Use Benefit licenses then we need to order Faculty licenses for all faculty and staff (defined as Knowledge Workers). Now we’re eligible to order Student Use Benefit licenses, but how many? The second column, with the numbers, gives us the answer and you can see for Microsoft 365 A3/A5 there is the number 40 – for every Faculty license ordered, I can order 40 Student Use Benefit licenses Page 102, April 2018 Product Terms
Partner Center: Current Availability Alex Talk Track: Note that this is a fake screenshot – composed to show the different Student Use Benefit offerings – they don’t appear in a nice list like this. And, for the record, this is what you can choose in Partner Center as at 9 April 2018 So this is what’s available in CSP to order as a Student Use Benefit license if you cover all of your Knowledge Workers with the corresponding paid-for Faculty product
Partner Center: SUB Subscriptions Alex Talk Track: So the Student Use Benefit licenses are transacted as a Subscription but you should note that there is no compliance checking. You are physically able to order Student Use Benefit licenses for a customer WITHOUT ordering qualifying products, so make sure that you keep up to date with the Product Terms and the ratios that are provided so that you always keep your customers compliant
Student Use Benefit Licenses Not all products are included Windows virtualization rights and access to licensed on-premises servers are not included Talk Track: And the final thing I want to mention about Student Use Benefit licenses are just some differences that occur in relation to the matching Faculty licenses First of all, (click) not all products are necessarily included. What do I mean by this? Well, here we have (click) the components that make up the Faculty license for Microsoft 365 A3 and the ones that make up the corresponding Student Use Benefit license And there are two components (click) that are available in the paid-for licenses but not the free Student Use Benefit licenses. If students needed to make use of these components then the educational institution would need to buy the Microsoft 365 A3 Student licenses And the other difference is in use rights. (click) The paid-for licenses include, for example here, Windows virtualization rights and the CAL equivalent rights that we talked about earlier. Again, if students need to make use of these rights, then the institution needs to purchase licenses for them A tip is to search the Product Terms for the words “Student Use Benefit” to find the restrictions on these licenses by product
Education and CSP Microsoft 365 A1 Talk Track: And the final section is looking at the new Microsoft 365 A1 product which was announced at the end of January, and will only be available in CSP Microsoft 365 A1
Microsoft 365 Education A1 New ‘device-led’ offer in the Microsoft 365 Education portfolio for breadth schools Microsoft 365 A1 Office 365 A1 Intune for Education Windows 10 Pro upgrade Office 365 A1 Free ($0) Microsoft 365 A1 ($30 per device) Microsoft 365 A3 $69 per user Microsoft 365 A5 $129 per user NEW! Education Portfolio Talk Track: If we think about Microsoft 365 as a family we know that it includes Office 365, Windows 10, and security and management tools. The new Microsoft 365 A1 follows this pattern too and you can see on the left that it includes Office 365 A1, Windows 10 Pro Upgrade, and Intune for Education If you look on the right hand side you can see where it fits into the family but where it differs is it’s a device license. You can see there’s a price there of $30 and that’s for the lifetime of the device. How long is that? It’s considered to be six years and we’ll look at some transactional details on the next slide This device license can be assigned to new or existing devices. You can imagine it’s great for Windows 7 or 8 devices because of the Windows 10 Pro upgrade license It’s also great for brand new devices because it includes Windows AutoPilot. What’s this? Well, imagine the traditional way of setting up a device – the IT department takes delivery of a new device and prepares it with an image, or a collection of drivers and settings (or whatever they need) and then sends it to the user all ready to go. With Windows AutoPilot you can set up profiles with the settings you want, link them to new machines, and then a user can take delivery and do the setup process and when the machine connects to Azure Active Directory it links to the profile and sets up the machine as the IT department configured in the profile. Very useful!
Transacting Microsoft 365 Education A1 Availability Only available through CSP Licensing Rules Device license May only be reassigned to same type of machine after permanent hardware failure Term Lifetime of the device = 6 years No auto-renew Pricing ERP $30 for full term No differentiated Faculty or Student pricing No cancellations possible No associated student use benefit Talk Track: So let’s take a look at the information here. We’ve already said (click) that this license will only be available through CSP In terms of the licensing rules (click) we know it’s a device license and there aren’t really reassignment rights – if a machine fails and you can replace it with exactly the same type of machine after permanent hardware failure then that would be fine, but not otherwise We’ve said (click) that the term is the lifetime of the device which is considered to be 6 years and unlike other Subscriptions in CSP, this one doesn’t auto-renew And in terms of pricing (click) we know that the ERP is $30 for the full term, and you can see a couple of other points here – there’s no differentiated pricing for Faculty and Students, you can’t cancel this Subscription, and there’s no notion of student use benefits associated with it
Transacting Microsoft 365 Education A1 Select New subscription: Select Microsoft 365 A1 2 Add desired Quantity: Add quantity of Microsoft 365 A1 licenses and click Submit & Confirm View Microsoft 365 A1 in Subscriptions 3 Add Office 365 A1 Under Subscriptions, select Microsoft 365 A1 (will show Details) Add quantity of Office 365 A1 (fac/stu) ($0) Talk Track: Let’s take a look at how partners will transact this offer Firstly, (click) you’ll set up a new Microsoft 365 A1 Subscription and add the required number of licenses (click). Then you’ll have the opportunity to (click) add as many Office 365 A1 licenses to the Subscription too. This is obviously a splendid idea when you have multiple people who will be using the devices – I could buy 100 Microsoft 365 A1 licenses for my 100 new devices and then buy 203 Office 365 A1 licenses for the various people who will use these devices Add as many Office 365 A1 as you need (fac/stu) ($0) Select ‘Microsoft 365 A1’ Add quantity
Microsoft 365 Education A1 Page 102, April 2018 Product Terms Talk Track: And where will you find the rules for this? In the Product Terms of course Page 102, April 2018 Product Terms
Talk Track: That brings us to the end of this module and we’ll focus on Online Services through CSP in the next CSP Licensing Fundamentals module Thank you!
