Sexually Transmitted Infections & Safe Sex In Honduras Shannon Childs & Martha Rennie Purpose Methods Outcomes To promote safe sex practices through education among young adults in the Country of Honduras in order to decrease incidences of sexually transmitted infections Interactive health education sessions True or false activity at the start of the session Education session on various sexually transmitted infections, including transmission, symptoms, treatment and prevention PowerPoint Presentation when permitted Displayed graphic images of STIs Condom application demonstration Condom activity in small groups to test understanding A anonymous question box session The creation of a safe, respectful and open learning environment The topic was well received with students, teachers and administrators The topic was well received as students asked questions, participated and generated thoughtful discussions Students were surprised to see graphic images, which demonstrated that visual aids are effective tools to facilitate learning Students were successful during the condom activity, which demonstrated knowledge transfer and their understanding of the proper steps in condom use Setting Urban and rural communities throughout Honduras Transition homes for boys and girls Reyes Irene (School for girls) Rural high school Future Preparedness Target Population The anonymous question box revealed questions that would make potential good topics for future projects. These include: Masturbation Sexual urges Healthy Sexual Relations More in depth information of HIV and AIDS Continuing to educate young adults on sexual health in the future years will be beneficial in sustaining safe sex practices Young Honduran adults, ages 13-18 who live in rural or urban communities Informing young adults about sexually transmitted infections and safe sex practices is essential in order to prevent the occurrences of these infections and increase overall health.
