FFI is a research collaboration between the government and the vehicle industry to co-finance research and innovation activities 3536 4372 msek public funding msek private funding National and regional strategic plans on Automated Driving (AD) - FFI

EFFICIENT AND CONNECTED TRANSPORT SYSTEM Infrastructure Vehicles Business models Programme- areas: Regulations Human factors Mobility as a Services National and regional strategic plans on Automated Driving (AD) - FFI

A national Strategic Innovation Program bringing all stakeholders together to facilitate the next generation mobility services, based on connected and automated vehicles Test sites Gothenburg Stockholm and Automated Highways http://www.drivesweden.net/en Overview of current national large-scale AD activities, test environments, funded pilots – for ex. Drive Me (self-driving Volvo-cars in pilot), Truck Platooning (H2020), off-road - pilot in the mining industry; Drive Sweden (strategic innovation program), H2020 Drive Sweden is a joint venture between the universities, private companies, the state and many more. The Swedish Transport Adm is a partner and it is chaired by the former Swedish Minister for Infrastructure

The project was kicked off in 2013, and the pilot begins in 2017 100 ‘normal’ families will experience self-driving Volvo XC90s on public roads in Gothenburg The project was kicked off in 2013, and the pilot begins in 2017 Similar pilots will later be run also in London and China Overview of current national large-scale AD activities, test environments, funded pilots – for ex. Drive Me (self-driving Volvo-cars in pilot), Truck Platooning (H2020), off-road - pilot in the mining industry; Drive Sweden (strategic innovation program), H2020 Drive Me - pilot with self-driving Volvo XC90s on public roads in Gothenburg

Scania and Volvo both participated in the European Truck Platooning Challenge, and are now preparing for multi-brand platooning projects in Sweden as well as within H2020 The off-road domain is also attractive for both companies. Volvo is currently piloting a self-driving truck in the Boliden mine in Kristineberg. Overview of current national large-scale AD activities, test environments, funded pilots – for ex. Drive Me (self-driving Volvo-cars in pilot), Truck Platooning (H2020), off-road - pilot in the mining industry; Drive Sweden (strategic innovation program), H2020 Truck Platooning – European Truck Platooning Challenge 2016 etc. Off-road domain – Ex mining industry

From the Volvo Group – illustrating the many initiatives going on right now

Important areas to adress Public acceptance Traffic safety Spatial planning Cyber security Regulations

The legal road to self-driving vehicles Proposal submitted March 31, 2016 for the regulation of trials using self-driving vehicles on roads. Submit proposals for an introduction of fully or partially automated vehicles on the road. To be reported no later than November 28, 2017. (SOU 2016:28) The Swedish Transport Agency is collaborating with UNECE’s relevant WGs for international harmonization

Challenges and lessons learned Accessability / Mobility is more important than autonomous vehicles Pilots are crucial for end-user understanding and acceptance Cross-functional collaboration absolutely critical to success
