SEQUENCE 3; The Supermarket Robbery Alysia and Merna

QUICK RECAP This is the sequence in which Lola doesn’t catch Manni before he robs the store during her first run. He goes ahead with the robbery and Lola ends up helping him.

As Lola is running, we hear anticipating music that creates tension among the audience. We also are constantly reminded of her race with time through the showing of the clock. We get a close up of Manni’s head showing the distress in his face as he looks at the clock awaiting the arrival of Lola. As soon as the clock hits noon he moves aheads into the supermarket.

Lola screams out to Manni but he doesn’t hear her Lola screams out to Manni but he doesn’t hear her. We are shown a split screen showing both Lola and Manni simultaneously.

Manni begins to makes shots in the air Manni begins to makes shots in the air. Lola then appears at the window as she explains to him what happened, then deciding to help him out in the crime of this run. This is an act of love as she is risking her life for him.

We can tell this is not in the nature of Lola as she is unsure of how to use the gun she picks up from the officer. Manni however is experienced in this as he notices a safety plug that needs to be unplugged to work the gun. This gives an audience an insight of their past and an understanding of the characters themselves.

Lola looking a mess as she does throughout the entire movie, covers Manni as he robs the store. We hear occasional screams as shots are fired and as he is jumping around collecting the money we are shown rapid flicks between him and Lola. This creates more overall tension among the audience. We are then shown a close up on Lola’s expression of fear on her face.

Once they’ve completed the robbery they run out of the supermarket Once they’ve completed the robbery they run out of the supermarket. As they do this there is slow music that blocks out the sounds of the cars and the scene is what seems to be dramatised. This is interrupted by the sounds of sirens and the camera circles Lola and Manni to show that they are trapped with no place to escape.
