Intermediate Division: Young Marines Shooting Sports Program Young Marines Units must be registered as a team made up of one or more squads of 4 shooters. Squads compete in one or more of the following SASP Divisions. Rookie Division: Grades 5 and below. Rimfire rifle only. Intermediate Division: Grades 6-8 Senior Division: Grades 9-12 Open: Combination of ages/grades www.YoungMarines.com
Additional Young Marines Rule: Young Marines Shooting Sports Program Every Young Marines Unit Squad “MUST” have a Head Coach who is 21 years of age or older. The first and foremost responsibility of the Head Coach is to ENSURE THE SAFETY of all participants. Head Coaches MUST emphasize the safe handling and use of firearms in every facet of the Scholastic Action Shooting Program and must be willing to conduct the “Required Practices” as stipulated in the SASP Program Guidelines Additional Young Marines Rule: In order for a Young Marine to participate at either practice or at an event, the parent or legal guardian of the participant must be present. www.YoungMarines.com
Young Marines Shooting Sports Program All of the program information is clearly presented on the SASP pages of the www.sssfonline.org website. Please note: Young Marines unit leadership will be expected to identify a local range(s) to set up practice sessions. Young Marines unit leadership will be required to identify one or more designated registered adults that will be responsible for managing this program including caring for and transportation of the unit’s firearms, ammo, eye and ear protection and any other safety or operational equipment needed for this program. www.YoungMarines.com
Young Marines Shooting Sports Program For the balance of 2018, Young Marines units can practice and participate in SASP local and state matches and post scores in the SHOT System. In states where there are no local or state matches, Young Marines units can hold their own competitions and record scores to the Shot System. Beginning in 2019, in addition to local and state and national SASP competitions, Young Marines shooting squads will be able to compete in the 12th SMMC Gene Overstreet Young Marines Competitions. www.YoungMarines.com
Young Marines Shooting Sports Program In July, 2019 the top 2 squads in each Young Marines Division in each category, (Rookie, Intermediate, Senior, Open) will be invited to compete in a 12thSMMC Division Competition. There will be three events in late August, 2019, one for YM divisions 1/5 a second event for YM divisions 2/3 and a third event for divisions 4/6. (Locations TBD) www.YoungMarines.com

Young Marines Shooting Sports Program To honor R. Lee Ermey and his unwavering support of The Young Marines Youth Organization, each year an individual Young Marine with the highest shooting score in each shooting division will earn the R. Lee Ermey Precision Shooting Award. www.YoungMarines.com
