Working Together to protect our Planet We Work Together: Working Together to protect our Planet WC 12th June 2017

“Only when the last tree has died, and the last river has been poisoned, and the last fish has been caught, will we realise that we cannot eat money.” (Native American Indian saying) What does this mean to you? Do you agree? Does this apply to you, here, in the UK?

How does that make you feel? If we were to express all the time the planet has been in existence as a 24 hour day, then life began at around 8 p.m., the dinosaurs walked from 11.35 p.m. to four minutes to midnight and our ancestors only began walking upright ten seconds ago. The Industrial Revolution and all our modern age have lasted less than a thousandth of a second. During that time, people have ransacked, polluted, bombed, bulldozed and bruised the planet. Now something must be done to heal it. The clock is still ticking. Over to you… Is this ‘civilisation’? Is this ‘Civilised’?

What do these quotes mean? How do they apply to you? “The earth is what we all have in common.” "Although individual decisions may seem small in the face of global threats and trends, when billions of people join forces in common purpose, we can make a tremendous difference." UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon What do these quotes mean? How do they apply to you? How could you put this into action TODAY? Donald Trump has decided to go againt world leaders and has decided to leave the Paris accord on climate change. You can read about it here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/06/01/fact-checking-president-trumps-claims-on-the-paris-climate-change-deal/?utm_term=.b84f338d950e What do you think about a world leader doing this?

What do you think of these ideas? Remembering the Manchester Attack The floral tributes which have become a public shrine to the 22 people killed in the Manchester terror attack have been cleared overnight. Manchester city centre has been carpeted in flowers and thousands of people have flocked to pay tribute since the Arena incident. However, plans have been drawn up to create an amazing lasting tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack. Petals will be used in memorial books to be presented to the families of those who died in the atrocity. Pot plants left in the square will also be replanted across the city and wilted bouquets will be used for compost - to help new life flourish. Children’s charities are also set to benefit when soft toys and football shirts left in the square are cleaned and handed out to youngsters. Meanwhile, messages which have been left on cards in the square will be preserved by Manchester Central Library’s Archives and Manchester Museum as an important part of the city’s social history. Personal message may also make their way to the victim’s families. There are also plans to create a permanent memorial to mark the spontaneous memorial. What do you think of these ideas?
