Advocating Life Choices Each Project must include a Planning Process summary page. Planning Process—A five-step method (identify concerns, set a goal, form a plan, act, and follow up) to help FCCLA chapter members and advisers plan individual, group, or chapter activities. Advocacy An individual or team event Recognizes participants who demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities to actively identify a local, state, national or global concern.

Evidence of Online project summary INFORMATION Evidence of Online project summary Complete the online form located on the STAR Events Resources page of the FCCLA national website and include proof of submission in the portfolio. This will be documented on the point summary form of the room consultant rubric.

Specifications: Portfolio & Oral Presentation Hardcopy Portfolio The portfolio is a collection of materials that must be contained in the official FCCLA STAR Events binder obtained from the FCCLA national emblematic supplier. All materials, including the divider pages and tabs, must fit within the cover, be one-sided, and may not exceed 46 pages, as described on the Advocacy specifications page.

Specifications: Portfolio & Oral Presentation Electronic Portfolio An electronic portfolio may be either in PowerPoint, Prezi, or other electronic format that can be viewed by the evaluators and room consultants prior to the oral presentation. The electronic portfolio and the hardware (method) to view it (i.e., equipment, files, projectors, screens, laptops) will be turned in to the room consultant at the designated participation time. Portfolio may not excee 57 slides, as described on the Advocacy specifications page.

Specifications: Portfolio & Oral Presentation May be up to 10 minutes Participants may use any combination of props, materials, supplies, and/or equipment to demonstrate how to carry out the project Props – An object used to enhance a theme or presentation that does not include visuals, audio/visuals, or costumes/uniforms

Specifications: Case Study Will be given 10 minutes during competition to complete the case study portion Given a situation based on the issue type local, state, national, global

Specifications: Case Study Develop a plan for how to approach advocating for the issue based on their experience using the Advocacy Case Study form Advocacy Case Study Form is turned into the evaluators prior to the oral presentation

Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation

Evidence of Online Project Summary Submission Complete the online project summary form located on the STAR Events Resources page of the FCCLA national website and include proof of submission in the portfolio. This will be documented on the point summary sheet for Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation.

Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation An individual or team event for senior and occupational members only Recognizes participants who demonstrate their knowledge, of the hospitality, tourism, and recreation industries and ability to translate their knowledge into hypothetical or real business. Project must relate to culinary, lodging, recreation, tourism, or event coordination

Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation Research existing businesses, similar to project, develop a basic business plan and client services information, and create a website that highlights the business

Specifications: Three parts to the competition: Portfolio Oral Presentation Case Study Demonstrate their customer service knowledge and ability to problem solve onsite

Specifications: Portfolio & Oral Presentation Hardcopy Portfolio The portfolio is a collection of materials used to document and illustrate the work of the project. Materials must be contained in the official FCCLA STAR Events binder obtained from the FCCLA national emblematic supplier. All materials, including the divider pages and tabs, must fit within the cover, be one-sided, and may not exceed 46 pages, as described on the specifications page for Hospitality, tourism and Recreation

Specifications: Case Study Complete one Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation Case Study Form Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation Case Study Form is turned into the evaluators prior to the oral presentation Work will take place within the case study room with no spectators No Pre-Written Material is Allowed!

Career Investigation An individual event for junior and senior, and occupational. Recognizes participants for their ability to perform self-assessments, research, and explore a career, set career goals, create a plan for achieving goals, and describe the relationship of FACS coursework to the selected career.

Specifications: Portfolio & Oral Presentation Hardcopy Portfolio The portfolio is a collection of materials used to document and illustrate the work of the project. Entrepreneurship An individual event or team event Recognizes participants who develop a plan for a small business using Family and Consumer Sciences skills and sound business practices. Sound Business Practices – Practices that are comprehensive, ethical, realistic, and profitable

Entrepreneurship Business must relate to an area of Family and Consumer Sciences education or related occupations

Specifications: Two parts to the competition: Portfolio Oral Presentation

Specifications: Portfolio & Oral Presentation Hardcopy Portfolio The portfolio is a collection of materials contained in the official FCCLA STAR Events binder obtained from the FCCLA national emblematic supplier. All materials, including the divider pages and tabs, must fit within the cover, be one-sided, and may not exceed 64 pages, as described on the Specifications page for Entrepreneurship.

Specifications: Portfolio & Oral Presentation Electronic Portfolio An electronic portfolio may be either in PowerPoint, Prezi, or other electronic format that can be viewed by the evaluators and room consultants prior to the oral presentation. The electronic portfolio and the hardware (method) to view it (i.e., equipment, files, projectors, screens, laptops) will be turned in to the room consultant at the designated participation time. Portfolio may not exceed 75 slides, as described on the specifications page for Entrepreneurship.

Environmental Ambassador

Evidence of Online Stewardship Project Summary Submission INFORMATION Evidence of Online Stewardship Project Summary Submission Participants should complete the online stewardship project summary form located on the STAR Events resources page of the FCCLA national website and include proof of submission in the portfolio. This will be documented on the point summary sheet for Environmental ambassador.

Environmental Ambassador An individual event or team event Recognizes participants who address environmental issues that adversely impact human health and well being and who actively empower others to get involved

Environmental Ambassador Participants research one of the five current topics These are found on the FCCLA Resources Page in September (Link in Helpful Links) Current – Current information may vary by content field. Current research should be up-to-date based on research and study in the field

Environmental Ambassador Investigate areas where they can make a difference, develop and carry out a Stewardship Project for their home, school, or community, and educate others in their school or community about the problems, effects, and solutions regarding the environmental concern. Stewardship Project – A project carried out by participants in their home, school, or community which actively works to counteract, reverse, or prevent the presence of an environmental concern or issue

Specifications: Portfolio & Oral Presentation Electronic Portfolio An electronic portfolio may be either in PowerPoint, Prezi, or other electronic format that can be viewed by the evaluators and room consultants prior to the oral presentation. The electronic portfolio and the hardware (method) to view it (i.e., equipment, files, projectors, screens, laptops) will be turned in to the room consultant at the designated participation time. Portfolio may not exceed 56 slides, as described on the Environmental ambassador specifications page.

Specifications: Portfolio & Oral Presentation May be up to 15 minutes Presentation should explain the specifics in the project Visuals should be used during the presentation Portfolio may be used as a visual Not Allowed: File Folder & Manuals

Don’t be Disqualified! Project should be done in current school year July 1 – June 30 Projects should not be used in 2 events in the same year Don’t redo whole projects from previous years It should be the student’s own work & creativity
