Welcome back! Happy New Year!!!!

Rules and procedures of room 322 In this presentation we will discuss…… Entering and exiting the room Bathroom policy Book boxes Morning work Early finishers Retakes Behavior management plan MyOn Coming up in science and social studies Third and fourth quarter goals

Entering the classroom…. Walk, do not run into the classroom Boys line and girls line outside the door You do not enter until told to do so Immediately read the “Do Now” message on the board, grab your supplies out of your book boxes and get straight to work Morning work is done independently unless I say otherwise. This means you are not talking to your neighbors

Exiting the classroom... You do not leave the classroom until Ms. DeVriendt dismisses you. The clock does not dismiss you, I do. :) Your table won’t be called to leave if your workspace is messy. On your way out of the classroom, gently place your things back into your bookbox. 3rd rotation new dismissal at the end of the day. Let’s practice!

Bathroom policy You should be going to the bathroom before school, during recess, or during lunch. If you have to go to the bathroom, raise your hand and I will come sign your agenda. Place agenda in the slot by the door. DO NOT ask to go to the bathroom if I am in the middle of teaching. This is incredibly rude and disruptive.

Bookboxes New “journals” On most days, you will only need your social studies textbook and your two folders (green and blue). Folders are to be kept in your backpack! I will tell you if you need the compositions notebooks in the “Do Now” message. DO NOT stuff papers into your book box. Every single paper you get must be placed in either your science folder or your social studies folder. Let’s set up our science and social studies journals!

Morning Work Most days, you will have morning work Typically it will be a passage to close read for the week (Monday=first read, Tuesday=second read and begin annotating, Wednesday=third read and finish annotating, Thursday and Friday=answer the response questions) Some days your morning work will be MyOn. Until we finish The One and Only Ivan, morning work will be a read aloud :) You are expected to get right to work on your morning work every day. View the “Do Now” message for morning work directions.

Early finishers If you finish your work early, you don't just sit and distract others! Here are your options when you finish work: Science center (I will try to copy a new one more frequently). Remember an 80% or higher on a center earns you a positive! MyOn-I want to learn more about this program and begin assigning you stories. Mrs. Miller assigns them as well so you can work on hers too. Silent read Complete other homework

Retake policy You can only retake tests or quizzes, not assignments! You must fill out the retake form. Retakes are to be completed during recess and lunch. On the day you want to retake, after we switch for RTI, you come line up in my line and hand me your retake form. Then I will get you set up to retake during recess/lunch. Bring your lunch if you brought a lunch. Avoid buying lunch on days you are retaking if possible You must retake within one week of receiving your original score! Check Power Schools frequently!

Behavior Managment Plan Behavior card and board system Remind Ms. DeVriendt to give positives to names on the board if she forgets! (I will try to sign cards at the end of class every Friday if not more frequently.) Buddy classroom (Mrs. Crouch 7th grade) Think Sheet and email home Office referral

MyOn Let’s get setup. I am new to this so we will see how it goes! Group Code: 9tndz9xu

Coming up in the 3rd and 4th quarter... Science Sun, Moon, and Stars (3rd quarter) Mixtures and Solutions (4th quarter) Scientific Method science fair (maybe) Social Studies The American Revolution (3rd quarter) Founding the Nation (3rd quarter) Westward Expansion (4th quarter) Slavery and Emancipation (4th quarter) Wax Museum at the end of the year!

3rd and 4th quarter goals Ms. DeVriendt’s goals Pass back papers more quickly Keep desk and room organized (need your help!) Be above district average on school city assessments Incorporate technology into the classroom more and be more creative in delivery of lessons What are your goals?

Be kind always!
