They will discover the places where civilizations developed, how geography influenced cultures, and how these cultures have helped shape the world today. Major emphasis will be given to Mesoamerica, South America, China, Japan, West Africa, Arabia, and Europe. I feel especially privileged and excited to teach 7th Grade Social Studies to your child! We will use this textbook as our main resource. We have a class set, so leave your textbook at your house unless otherwise notified. Students are recommended to use two, two pocket, three prong folders to organize their work. The teacher reserves the right to deal with specific late work and make-up work issues on a case by case basis. The general rules that will apply are as follows: If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to retrieve work you missed. You can also download any notes you missed and access homework on-line. You have 7 days to turn in your late assignments if you miss the original due date. Late assignments will be deducted 50%. Students may write in pencil or blue or black ink only. We will also utilize red pens for editing and highlighters for annotating. We will watch historically based videos & clips to help bring topics to life. Most of the videos are made by respected broadcasting networks, such as the History Channel and are designed for educational purposes. Some of the videos may contain re-enactments of wars or war like images. If you don’t not feel comfortable having your child view these types of images, please let me know. All students will need to access the internet at home or on campus frequently. A charged smartphone is also suggested to bring to class, but not required. Parents and students are encouraged to email me (email above) regarding any questions throughout the year. I will update my teacher webpage on the South Pointe Middle School website, where students can find homework assignments and most class materials.
