Text Organization 1 I am trying to decide whether to buy a coat with a zipper or buttons. I like a zipper because it is easy and fast to close. I like buttons because they dont get stuck like a zipper sometimes does. Of course, buttons can come off and get lost. But zippers can break.

Text Organization 2 TEXT ORGANIZATION Sequencearranged in steps Question/Answerasks a question and gives the answer Comparison/Contrastcompares and contrasts the features of two things Cause/Effecttells the cause and what effect is the result Problem/Solution poses a problem and supplies a solution

Text Organization 3 SEQUENCE Here are the steps for planting tulips. 1.Buy the biggest tulip bulbs you can. 2.Plant them in the fall before the ground freezes. 3.Dig holes that are 2 times deeper than the bulbs size. 4.Place each bulb in a hole with the pointed end up. 5.Cover the bulbs with soil. 6.Wait patiently until spring to see your tulips bloom!

Text Organization 4 QUESTION/ANSWER You may have wondered what ducks eat. Some ducks are good at diving beneath the surface of a pond to get food. These diving ducks eat water weeds, worms, and small fish. Other ducks are called dabblers. They upend in the water and reach any food they can from the surface. Sometimes ducks waddle into puddles looking for worms after a rainstorm.

Text Organization 5 COMPARISON/CONTRAST Our family is planning to purchase a new vehicle. We have been looking at both cars and trucks. My dad really wants a truck. He says he can use it to haul his tools to work. He can use it to pull his boat to the lake. My mom wants a car. She likes a trunk where she can put her packages on a rainy or snowy day. She doesnt like to climb into a truck which is higher than a car.

Text Organization 6 CAUSE/EFFECT The weather has been extremely hot this summer. People have been buying more fans and air conditioners. The business at swimming pools has been better than last year. Stores have reported selling more ice cream than ever before.

Text Organization 7 PROBLEM/SOLUTION There is a lot of trash on our playground. Some of it blows in with the wind, and some of it is dropped by students. What we need is several outdoor trashcans. Students could put their trash in the cans. They could pick up other peoples trash and put it in the cans. Then we would have a clean playground.

Did you ever wonder why cats purr? When a kitty climbs into your lap and curls up, you almost always hear a purring noise. Cats purr when they are content. They enjoy the warmth and comfort of your lap. Most people feel relaxed when the cat purrs. Text Organization 8

Text Organization 9 Salt Dough Clay Ingredients 1 cup of salt 1 cup of flour ½ cup of water Directions Put the flour and salt in a large bowl and mix well. Make a hole in the center of the flour/salt mixture. Pour the water into the hole. Stir and knead until the mixture is smooth and can be shaped. Use the clay to make sculptures or ornaments. Dry them in the air. Paint your projects after they are dry. [Clip art spec: a big bowl and spoon]

When days grow shorter and the temperature cools in fall, changes take place in nature. Trees stop making the chlorophyll that kept them green during summer. Leaves glow with yellows, reds, and oranges that were hidden before. Birds gather in flocks and migrate south to warmer places. Squirrels begin saving seeds and nuts to eat during winter. Insects lay eggs that will hatch when spring comes. Text Organization 10
