Safety Tutorial For Automotive Specialty Technician Mrs. Bowman ? ?

Training Tasks 1.Align and repair wheels, axles, frames, torsion bars, and steering mechanisms of automobiles, using special alignment equipment and wheel-balancing machines. 2.Examine vehicles, compile estimates of repair costs, and secure customers' approval to perform repairs. 3.Install and repair air conditioners, and service components such as compressors, condensers, and controls. 4.Rebuild, repair, and test automotive fuel injection units. 5.Remove and replace defective mufflers and tailpipes. 6.Repair and rebuild clutch systems. 7.Repair and replace automobile leaf springs. 8.Repair and replace defective ball joint suspensions, brakeshoes, and wheelbearings. 9.Repair, overhaul, and adjust automobile brake systems. 10.Repair, replace, and adjust defective carburetor parts and gasoline filter.

Pre-Test You have no clothing for your apprenticeship and you need to go shopping. What goes on your shopping list? What task can an 18 year old legally do when working as an automotive technician. How would you respond to an angry customer / or robbery?

1. Tools, Equipment and Machinery Minors under to age of 18 years old are prohibited from using tools that operate an elevator, crane, derrick, hoist, or high lift truck. For example: –Power driven machines that raise or lower a car –Fork lifts

2. Tools, Equipment and Machinery Minors under the age of 18 years are prohibited from working from an elevated surface such as from a ladder or lift. Minors are prohibited from adjusting belts to machinery or cleaning, oiling, or wiping machinery.

Chemical Hazards Minors under the age of 18 years are prohibited from preparing any composition in which dangerous or poisonous acids are used. Learn to read labels Learn the symbol for dangerous chemicals and contaminants. Learn the signs of exposure to contaminants Learn the emergency calling procedures.

Floors, Doors, Exits Know the location of the exits Pay attention to the procedures for spills on floors and clean up procedures.

Fire Ask about fire exits and fire extinguishers. Learn how to use a fire extinguisher.

Injury How and to whom do you report an injury. Minor bleeding can be stopped with direct pressure over the wound, as the blood will naturally clot. In order to prevent infection, a sterile or clean bandage should be used.
