Hong Kong Air Pollution

Hong Kong Hong Kong is a magnificent place to live in, with trees and parks everywhere. Fantastic views around such as the Peak, Sai Kung, Repulse Bay etc. The view from the PeakBeach in Sai Kung A Hong Kong Park

What is the issue? Over many years Hong Kongs major problem is the Air pollution. The air pollution in Hong Kong is affecting every single citizen living there. Sickness, views, economy etc These are only some of the problems Health Impact Includes Asthma, Bronchial infections will begin when to much air pollution inhaled. Evidence has shown that Asthma and Bronchial infection has affected most workers that have a job outdoors.

What is the issue? View Impact Visibility in Hong Kong is currently less than 8 kilometres for over 30% of the year. Economy Impact The Hong Kong Government estimates that the pollution is costing them 21.2 billion a year only for hospital admissions.

What causes it? The air pollution in Hong Kong is caused by many things. Power Stations in Lamma Island produces air pollution (Carbon Dioxide) by burning fossil fuels and when the wind blows it brings it to Hong Kong. Electricity used by the citizens who live in Hong Kong are from the power station in Lamma Island. For instance the electricity used in every house hold in Hong Kong, only the homes consume 30-40% of the energy. Another large electricity consumer are the commercial buildings. They light up decorations every night. Hong Kong is also one of the major cities that is dense with light at night.

What causes it? Cars release air pollution (CO2) from their exhaust pipe. There are over thousands of vehicles in Hong Kong. Especially the diesel engine cars which are using Euro 1,2 and 3. Landfills in Hong Kong are also part of the causes.

Why do we need to protect our environment? We need to prevent the air pollution from invading into Hong Kong…… Otherwise the citizens who live in Hong Kong will inhale too much carbon dioxide which is bad for their health. Otherwise the environment and great views all around Hong Kong would not look nice anymore. Otherwise there will be less tourists travelling into Hong Kong because of the air pollution. Because this does not only affect Hong Kong but the world later on. ETC

Solutions We will need to stop using that much energy. Switch off lights/air conditioners/computers when not using Use renewable energy resources (solar power, wind power) The government of Hong Kong S.A.R is now encouraging people who uses diesel engines to renew it to meet the Euro 4-5 requirements. This makes the pollution released out from the car exhausts decrease. Recycle Plant more plants or trees Clean up the rubbish when you see some These are all useful solutions which could reduce the air pollution.

Evidence shows that smoky vehicles are less spotted which means the people are obeying the requirements of the Government.

If we can really reduce the air pollution in Hong Kong…
