What is CitiStat? CitiStat is a leadership strategy to mobilize city agencies to produce specific results. Based on a series of monthly meetings with the mayor’s leadership team and collaborative agencies. Meetings use data to analyze past performance, set new performance objectives, and examine overall performance strategies. Meetings are bi-weekly or every 4 weeks depending on the agency and the executive’s preference

CitiStat’s Start in Baltimore Modeled after a similar program in New York City, the Baltimore City Police Department initiated weekly ComStat meetings to improve crime-fighting efficiency. CitiStat represents the extended application of the same basic principles to the management of all municipal functions. First meeting held on June 29, 2000.

CitiStat Evolves – GunStat Stat meeting based on shared goal—targeted enforcement and prosecution of felony gun crimes. Shared purpose, not same boss. Law Enforcement (local, state and federal), Prosecution (local and federal), and a variety of state agencies. Tear down barriers and identify opportunities for collaboration. Collaborative meetings require greater effort to coordinate the agenda. Relentless follow-up is essential to move agenda forward.

GunStat The purpose of GunStat is to measure core strategies/benchmarks that lead to an overall reduction of violent gun related crime. Specific emphasis is placed on targeted defendants and gun related cases. Prioritized by law enforcement, prosecution and community supervision agencies in order to bring solid cases to trial and keep gun offenders off the street.
