They describe our thoughts regarding Visual comfort and the campaign “Light for the living street”, which Vialume is a part of. Lighting outdoors is all about putting people at the center. Inferring the needs we have as we move outdoors. Security is one of our most vital needs, and when the outdoor room has the right lighting it also increases the sense of security. The lighting is not any guarantee that no crime is committed, but it makes a big difference. Five different UK surveys show that improved lighting can reduce crime by 29 percent (National Crime Prevention Council report 2007:28).

Visual comfort Lighting saves lives Glare Did you know that a 40-year-old need such as 4 times as much light to see as good as a 20-year-old and a 60-year-old need 8 times as much light? With our aging population the risk of accidents on poorly lit streets obviously increases. For the safety on our roads the ability to react quickly is often crucial. As we get older both our responsiveness and our vision gets worse. With an aging population, it becomes even more important to have well-lit roads. Sufficient road lighting can prevent accidents. Glare means that the eye is exposed to a higher light level than the eye has adapted to. In short, we can say that glare is a major problem during the hours of darkness because the difference between darkness and light is then more pronounced.

A new Nordic classic is born ÅF Lighting and Fagerhult in cooperation Organic form Inspired by the Nordic light Vialume 1 is the result of close collaboration between Fagerhult and ÅF Lighting and Tuxen Design. Our new star stands for visual comfort, Nordic design and energy efficiency. The product fits along pedestrian and cycle paths, in residential areas and smaller city streets.

Our lighting solutions will combine energy efficient fixtures with visual comfort. How we are affected by light must never be neglected - it's technological development with a human approach. Visual comfort is a requirement for that both comfort and safety should appear in lit areas. We want our solutions to reflect our view of quality in both light and fixtures. They should reflect our expertise in Nordic light. Fagerhult’s idiom is based on Nordic design with its simple design language inspired by nature. The designs should fit into our public spaces - from traditional to modern - while creating an identity for the area. Our solutions will bring the overall picture and understanding how light affects our environment in interaction with the luminaires' performance, quality and flexibility.

Vialume 1 The luminaire consists of three parts: The upper part that protects the driver and the controls. The upper part has a round tapered shape that fits in well with our Nordic environments while being washed clean by rain because of its shape. The lower part is the light unit. The lower part consists of a heat sink where PCBs and lenses are mounted. A cast ring keeps the protective glass plate in place. The ring also gets heated which prevents icicles. The tilt component that allows variable adjustment of the luminaire for optimal installation, ± 15º. The tilt component connects to the post bracket. Large arched surface provides good cooling properties. The flanges can be found inside the luminaire.

AGC lenses Oversize lenses - unique properties Asymmetric wide (L1) Asymmetric forward throw (L4) Fagerhults AGC lenses have unique characteristics. They are extra large and sit close together and thus creates a luminous clusters that reduces glare. The lenses are made of acrylic and is placed up in the luminaire to thereby reduce glare. L1 is optimized for E2 L4 is optimized for M5 Both can handle G6 (max 350 cd/klm) and D6 (glare). The large lenses sit close together and form a single luminous cluster. The illuminated surface has been lifted up into the fitting to prevent glare. Glare that can be a problem when working with smaller lenses that sit directly in the lower surface of the luminaire. The cluster also lit up the fixture slightly so that it is visible from a distance. This allows the eye to adapt to the light before you get into the luminaire. When glare is reduced the visual comfort is increased. Vialumes optics also provides a soft gradient on the ground.

Tilt Variable tilt ± 15º For precise adjustment to the road To optimize the light distribution, it is important that you can adjust the luminaire angle to the road exactly. Vialumes unique tilt function makes that possible. The tilt funtion is variable and stepless ± 15º.

The road is in charge With Vialume we can adjust the luminaire to the road, and not the other way around. In major road projects, we can adjust the light output exactly. You can choose between various types of lenses and number of LEDs so that the luminaire can be customized for: - best visual comfort - lowest power consumption - lowest investment cost - lowest total cost (LCC)

During late evenings and nights the need for fully -lit streets and other outdoor The various systems we use for dimming outdoors is integrated in each luminaire ballasts and run by themselves . There is no need for external accessories for light control to work. The control units are pre-programmed and maintenance free. Luminaires with night dimming requires no additional investment or changes in the infrastructure . We can also provide customised night dimming. The system can provide up to 5 different light levels that are set for any time. They are working from a center point and can enable very low light levels in the middle of the night and medium levels in transition periods. More information can be found on our website.
