Quick guide to annotating

Annotating: Key Terms Circle Key Terms, Names of People, Names of Places, and words you are unfamiliar with. In order to identify a key term, consider if the word or phrase is… · Repeated · Defined by the author · Used to explain or represent an idea · Unfamiliar to you

Annotating: Underling Underline Relevant Information While reading informational texts (i.e., textbooks, reference books, etc.) read carefully to identify information that is relevant to the reading task. Relevant information might include: · A central concept or idea · Evidence · Definitions · Explanations · Descriptions · Data/Statistics

Annotating: write Write 1. · A one-sentence summary in the margin for each paragraph. 2. · A summary for the entire article on a separate sheet of paper.

Weekend homework Aretha Franklin’s Dirge 1. You will write a one-page dirge to be read at Aretha Franklin’s in-class funeral Monday August 20, 2018. 2. Your dirge is to be submitted via schoology.com 8/19/2018 by 11:59pm. 3. Please print your dirge and have it ready to be read in class Monday.
