Presentation transcript:

1, 2, 4 – Challenges and Possibilities “What are or were the barriers to your schools or ECE programs reaching and/or pursuing recognition for fidelity of implementation?”

1 – 2 - 4 1 Minute 1: Individually, silently answer this question and jot down your response on an index card. Question: “What are or were the barriers to your schools or ECE programs reaching and or pursuing recognition for fidelity of implementation?”

1 – 2 - 4 2 Minutes 2. Partner with someone else (anyone!). Share your ideas and generate ideas in pairs, building on the ideas you developed from self reflection. Question: “What are or were the barriers to your schools or ECE programs reaching and or pursuing recognition for fidelity of implementation?”

1 – 2 - 4 4 Minutes 4: As a pair, pair up with another “pair” (making 4!) Share and develop ideas from your pair in foursomes (notice similarities and differences!) Question: “What are or were the barriers to your schools or ECE programs reaching and or pursuing recognition for fidelity of implementation?”

Share out! Write big idea from each group on chart paper.

15 % “Most people have about 15-percent control over their work situations. The other 85% rests in the broader context.” - Gareth Morgon As you consider the barriers you described in your groups in the 1-2-4 challenge, consider the quote above from Gareth Morgan. Gareth Morgan is a best-selling author and keynoter speaker specializing in three key areas: Leadership and innovation in a turbulent world New perspectives on organization and management The challenges facing modern social theory and university research When we consider the schools and programs we support, what is really within our locus of control to evoke change?

15% “Challenge rests in finding ways of creating transformational change incrementally . . . Through 15% initiatives.” - Gareth Morgon In connection with your personal challenge or your group’s 1-2-4 challenge, ask, “What is your 15 percent? Where do you have discretion and freedom to act? What can you do without more resources or authority?”

15% Get into a group of 4. Anybody can work together! On your own – quietly generate a list of 15% solutions to the barriers listed in the 1-2-4 activity. Individuals share your list of ideas within your group of 4. Group members provide feedback and thoughts on your list of ideas. This happens for each person in the group. Participants will then join their own groups and discuss their 15% solutions to the barriers the group listed through the 1, 2, 4 activity.

Breakout Session 1  On your guided notes, identify 3 things you will do differently within your 15%.

Based on the three items listed in your 15%, consider what you will action plan to do one month from now. Example: By October 27th, I will……… What to Say: Focus the process on action. What will you have to do? By what day? Who does what, when? To accomplish what you want in the next month, you will have to take action immediately—what will you have to do? Be very specific, who will do what in the next month? For example, Who will convene the first meeting, Who will be invited, Who will build the agenda. Write down names, actions, and due dates. What to Do: Allocate 20 minutes for groups to discuss and record.

One month from now! What will you have to do? By what day? (October 27th) Who does what? When do they do it by? What are your immediate action steps? Get specific!
